1. Checkthe Doctor'sorder.
2. Identify the patient by checking their ID band and ask the name

3. Explain the procedure to the parents and gain oral consent

4. Bring necessary equipment to the bed side stand

Medication tray contains

• Medication cardex
• Small bowel with cotton swabs
• Kidney
• Pen
• Dropper\medication cup\spoon
• Gloves
5. Perform hand hygiene

6. Close the door and pull the curtains.

7. Check the medication’s order accuracy (medication’s card) it
should contains : the child name, drug name, time for
administration, route of administration, and dose to be
administered
8. Prepare and arrange the required equipment.( dropper,syringe,
cup or spoon)
9. Prepare the prescribed medication.
• If syrups check the bottles on top of the cart
• If tablets For infant, crush the tablet or open the capsule and
add to adequate amount of water .
10. Take the necessary dose of medicine using the dropper, syringe,
cup or spoon

11. Bring the medication tray directly to child's bedside.

12. Explain to the child and parent what you will do
13. Elevate the infant's head and depress his, chin with your thumb.
14. Drop the liquid medication slowly on the middle of the tongue
using dropper or syringe.
- Put the cup to his lips and slowly expel the medication into
the child's mouth.
- Put the spoon to the middle of the tongue and slowly expel
the medication into the child's mouth
15. If rubber tipped dropper is used the infant may be allowed to
suck and swallow the medication as it slowly passes into his
mouth.
16. Make sure that the child swallow the medicine
17. Dispose the solid equipment
18. Make the patient comfortable

19. Perform Hand Hygiene.

20. Replace of articles.
21. Documentation. : Date, Time, Name of medication, Dose, Route,
presents of adverse effect, child response, and Signature
