Reflection on Pressing Issues on Press Freedom

"In this modern society, doing the wrong thing seems to be doing the right thing." Most
of us tend to believe that corruption is the norm in our country. It is what corrupt people
established in most of us, and it continues to exist because not all of us are eager to contribute to
change. If we apply zero tolerance for corruption, as Maria A. Ressa did during her
administration at ABS-CBN, it might benefit a lot for the welfare of our country, especially for
our people. However, it is not as simple as it appears to be.
So the question now is, where do we begin? As Maria A. Ressa stated, we must begin
within ourselves. "To be able to speak the truth, you must be honest to yourself." In general, we
all want freedom from corruption and to receive the things we deserve from our government. We
will be able to put an end to corruption if we work together to build a country that is willing to
fight it.
We can all be stronger if we work together in developing a network of people. We can
get over it because we have faith, just like she said. I believe what she is implying is that if we
keep working together to stop the endemic in corruption, we can, and faith is the key to keeping
us working together because if we believe that we can get through it, just like how we believe in
God, we will have the drive to end the corruption that is currently happening to us.
Furthermore, we cannot do it all alone; in this generation, the power of the media and
journalists can help us achieve our aim. We will be able to achieve our aim if we use the media
to communicate our aspirations and reach those who are unaware of the truth. If we are unable
to do so, the phenomenon of media capture exists, in which unscrupulous people attempt to
tamper with their falsehoods in order to force journalists and other prominent people to lie for
them.
The bottom line is that we must work together to combat corruption. To effectively
collaborate with one another, we must speak the truth and be honest with ourselves, and we must
use the power of media to reach others who do not know about it. To combat corruption and all
other things that are currently happening to us, we must use the power of journalists and the
media, as well as the awareness of the masses, to stop the endemic of corruption that was formed
in the past, remains prevalent, and will eventually continue if we fail to eradicate it.
