GD Rotalock has been introduced to provide an inherently safe, low cost solution for quick and frequent
access to smaller diameter and lower pressure vessels in petrochemical, pharmaceutical and chemical process
technologies. Typical applications include:
The design is proven by finite element analysis and the closure is available in diameters from 4" – 14" with
working pressures up to ANSI 300 (740psi / 51.1bar) at temperatures from -50ºF to 400ºF. Standard
construction material is carbon steel in full compliance with ASME VIII Div I.
Seal
The fully moulded lip seal is available in nitrile
(NBR) and fluoro elastomer material (Viton). It is
located in the cap to prevent operational
damage and the use of a lip design prevents
metal to metal binding which is often
experienced when using ‘O’ rings in quick
opening threaded closures.
Operation
The PWS with its integral locking pin is
unscrewed and completely removed. This
enables the cap to be rotated by 1⁄4 turn,
which separates the seal surfaces giving the
operator a secondary warning if
pressure is still present in the vessel. A
further turn of the cap allows it to be
withdrawn from the hub and swung fully
clear using the hinge or davit.
Cap
Manufactured in cast carbon steel SA352-LCB material with 100% radiography in accordance with ASME/ASTM
E446-compliance to level 3. The head is drilled with a M16 (5⁄8") metric thread into which the PWS locates. The
exposed hole is considerably larger than that provided on other designs to ensure the risk of blockage is
minimised.
Hinging
Standard horizontal closures have jib arms
which permit the cap to swing to either
side after opening thus providing greater
installation flexibility. Vertical opening
utilises a screwed davit to lift the cap clear
of the hub. 4" diameter has a chain
attachment only.
Code Compliance
As standard Rotalock closure is ASME code stamped with U-2A partial data reports furnished. Code stamping
verifies shop inspection of the closure and materials by an ASME Authorised Inspector.
CE Marking for European applications is available as a cost option.
Materials meet the requirements of NACE standard MR-01-75.
Hydrotest
Rotalock closures can be hydrotested at additional cost.
