1. Max says Kevin “scared” him. Explain what he meant.

He means that he was scared as he did not understand Kevin.

2. a. Why is Kevin waving his crutch at the tree?

His ornithopter was stuck in the branches and he was trying to get it out.

b. At the end of the chapter, where is Max pulling Kevin?

He is pulling him to the down under. He was going to show him his room.

Freak the Mighty Chapter 4

Chapter 4
1. Where does Chapter 4 take place? (setting)

It takes place in Max’s room.

2. What is Kevin’s reaction to the “down under”?

He thinks it is very cool and can’t believe that Max live there all by himself.

3.Why does Freak call his mom ‘Fair Gwen of Air’?

He calls her Fair Guinevere, after Guinevere in the story of King Arthur and the knights
of the round table.

4.What does Freak compare the knights to and why?

He compares them to Robots, they wore armour that was all metal and they took orders
and acted out commands from the King.

5.What makes Freak so upset his “eyes blaze”?

Max said that he thought that robots weren’t real.

6.Explain Freak’s opinion of television. Do you agree or disagree with Freak? Why?
Freak calls it the Opiate of the Massives. An opiate is a very addictive drug. He uses the
word massives instead of masses to imply that when we watch TV constantly people become
overweight and unhealthy.
OWN OPINION – must be backed up with a reason.
7.Does Max like to read? Why or why not?

Max does not like to read. He has learning difficulties and so struggles with reading.

8.Why does Max think that the Fair Gwen ran away with Freak?

Max thinks that Gwen is scared of him.
