VOCABULARY

Daily blocking it is assigning guests to their particular rooms on a


daily basis
Early arrival A guest who arrives at the property before the date
of his or her reservation.
Early check-in A guest who arrives at the property before the
normal arrival time/check-in time of the hotel.
Key Card is a plastic key with electronic codes embedded on
a magnetic strip.
Late arrival A guest holding a reservation who plans to arrive
after the property's designated cancellation hour and
so notifies the property.
Late check out

Make up: Servicing of the room while a guest is registered in


the room.
On-change: The guest has departed, but the room has not yet
been cleaned and readied for re-sale.
On-Queue A guest has arrived at the hotel, but the room
assigned is not yet ready. In such cases, the room is
put on Queue status in-order for
the housekeeping staff to prioritise such rooms first.
Upgrade To move to better accommodation or room type or
class of service. Normally upgrades is done free of
cost.
Vacant A room status term indicating that the room has
been cleaned and inspected, and is ready for the
arriving guest.
Vacant and ready: The room has been cleaned and inspected and is
ready for an arriving guest.

rates and discounts are often offered during valley
periods to attract business.
Walk -n
A guest who arrives at a hotel without a reservation.

Wash down Blocking fewer rooms than the number requested by


a group, based on previous group history.
