“THE PARISIAN LIFE”

by: Juan Luna

Artist: The painting "The Parisian Life" was created by Juan Luna, a
renowned Filipino artist. He is best known for his contributions to
Philippine art during the 19th century and his powerful and
emotionally charged works.

Painting theme used: "The Parisian Life" falls into the genre of
Realism. It depicts the scene of a typical day in the life of a young
couple in Paris during the late 19th century.

Date created: The painting was created in 1892.

Description of the elements seen in the painting and their meaning

to the overall artwork: "The Parisian Life" portrays a well-
dressed couple in a cafe setting. The man and woman are
elegantly dressed in fashionable clothing of the time, enjoying a
leisurely moment together. The cafe interior is beautifully
detailed, with patrons and the waitstaff going about their
business.

The reason why I chose this painting because it is

intriguing and objectively good. It depicts the
genre “Realism”. I think it is also crucial that this
painting of realism is way ahead of his era in the
Philippines.
