GROWING UP TOGETHER

Melody Joy B. Barangas BSED-MATH 3A

4 year old Dancy is nervous about sleeping over at her best friend Lisa’s house, since
she struggles with bedwetting. Dancy’s worries turn into a heartwarming surprise
when she discovers that she is not alone in her struggle.
Darcy was always excited to play at her best friend Lisa’s
house. They would make believe in Lisa’s treehouse,
have tea parties with stuffed animals, and giggle about
silly things. But today
was different. Today
was Darcy’s first
sleepover and she was
nervous.
Darcy’s parents
hugged her goodbye and slipped a small package
into her bag: a pull-up for the night. They told her
that she had nothing to worry about and to enjoy
her sleepover. Despite their comforting words,
Darcy shouldn’t shake off her anxiety.
At Lisa’s house, Darcy played and laughed with her
friend, momentarily forgetting her worries. However,
as the sun set and bedtime approached, her anxiety
returned. She had to put on her pull-up without anyone
noticing.
Darcy went to her bag to
retrieve the pull-up but
discovered it was
missing.Panicking, she
noticed a stack of diapers
nearby. They belonged to
Lisa’s baby sister Lily.
Without thinking, Darcy
grabbed one, hoping it would fit.
Just as Darcy was about to put on the diaper, Lisa and her siblings walked in. Darcy
was mortified. She thought they would laugh at her and her secret would be out. But,
what happened next surprised her.
Lisa’s older brother Lincoln held up Darcy’s pull-
up, saying it had fallen out of her pillowcase. They
just wanted to return it. Darcy felt a wave of relief
but was still scared of their reaction.
Instead of laughing,
Lisa’s mom Rita
stepped in. She told
Darcy that she had
struggled with
bedwetting until she
was 13. And it was
not just Darcy; Lisa,
Lola, Lana, and Lucy also wore pull-ups.
Darcy was stunned. She thought she was the only one
who struggled with bedwetting. The revelation that she was not alone eased her
worries. She felt a sense of camaraderie among them.
The girls all put on their pull-ups together, laughing and
joking. Darcy’s fear of being laughed at faded away. She
realized that they were all just kids growing up, each with
their own struggles.
That night, Darcy slept peacefully at Lisa’s house. Her
worries were replaced by a sense of conmfort knowing
she wasn’t alone.
The sleepover
turned into a
wonderful
memory, a
testament to their friendship and mutual
support. Darcy woke up the next morning,
feeling happy and refreshed. The sleepover had
been a success. She thanked Lisa, Rita, and the
sisters for their understanding and support.
Darcy had learned a valuable lesson about
acceptance and friendship.
As Darcy went back home, she carried with her not just a fun memory, but also the
reassurance that she was just a normal kid growing up. She was no longer afraid of
sleepovers, but instead, looked forward to the next one.
