CONSTRUCTION OF RAINWATER HARVESTING

INSTALLATION (IPAH)
Lerep Village, West Ungaran District, Semarang Regency
1.Background Indonesia, which has a tropical climate, has two seasons: the
dry season and the rainy season. Along with global climate
change, the dry and rainy season cycle has shifted, which has
an impact on the availability of water for agricultural irrigation,
clean water, drinking water and so on.
Climate change has also resulted in some areas experiencing
extreme differences in rainfall during the dry and wet seasons.
During the rainy season, some areas are prone to flooding and
landslides, while others are prone to drought.
The average rainfall in Semarang Regency is 1,979 mm with
104 rainy days. This condition is mainly influenced by the
geographical location of Semarang Regency which is
surrounded by mountains and rivers.
Although hydrologically rich in water resources, the high
amount of rainfall is a potential that can be utilized. The
potential of rainwater can be utilized for household and
agricultural purposes so as to reduce groundwater
consumption. By doing so, the availability of water resources
will be sustainable.
Adequate rainwater harvesting systems are necessary for the
conservation of water resources. Rainwater harvesting will
reduce run off, especially in densely populated urban areas
with limited green open space. Furthermore, the collected
rainwater can be used for bathing, washing (MCK) and
watering plants daily or for other purposes. In addition, it can
provide education and increase community capacity in climate
change adaptation actions.
Considering this, the Central Java Provincial Environment and
Forestry Agency will facilitate the provision of a Rainwater
Harvesting Installation (IPAH) to the ProKlim Sokaku Asri
group, Lerep Village, West Ungaran Sub-district, Semarang
Regency for the provision of clean water, reducing run off, and
learning tools for climate change adaptation.
In order to obtain IPAH building results that are sustainably
beneficial to the community, planning is required.
