1830 to 1900.

In the musical world composers like


Weber, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin,
Lizt, Berlioz, Wagner, were the most
important of the time.

Beethoven is considered the bridge


between Classical and Romantic period.

PROGRAMME MUSIC

Many composers used music as a way


to described places, persons or ideas.

This compositions were called

Symphonic poems.
ROMEO AND JULIET
BY TCHAIKOVSKY

This is an example of programme music


and it’s based on the Shakespeare’s
play “Romeo and Juliet star-crossed
lovers”.

Tchaikovsky uses contrasting themes


for different characters.

As Romeo and Juliet this two themes are very gentle and lyrical.
MONTAGUES AND CAPULETS THEME

This theme is fast and syncopated to describe the feud between the two
families.
PIANO MUSIC
The Romantic era threw up some of the
most incredibly complex and beautiful
piano music.

The young instrument allowed


composers to express their emotions in
a completely new way thanks to the
dinamics variety the it offers.
CHOPIN
Considered Poland’s greatest
composers, Frederic Chopin focused
his efforts on piano compositions and
was a strong influence on composers
who followed him.

This composition was written between
1829 and 1830.

Chopin creates a unique, dreamy and


romantic atmosphere.

The main characteristics are a soft


base line, a very lyric melody and
extraordinary expressive efficacy.
