MRI DORSOLUMBAR SPINE

STUDY PROTOCOLS:

FLAIR T1W AND FAST SPIN ECHO T2W HIGH RESOLUTION SAGGITAL IMAGES OF
DORSOLUMBAR SPINE WERE OBTAINED ON A DEDICATED PHASED ARRAY SURFACE SPINE
COIL USING 3.0 TESLA HDXT MR SCANNER AND CORRELATED WITH T1W AND T2W AXIAL
IMAGES.

FINDINGS:

Dorsal curvature is maintained.

Disc desiccation changes with marginal osteophytes are noted at multiple dorsal and lumbar levels
evident in the form of loss of central T2 hyperintensity, however no significant disc bulge /
herniation is noted in dorsal spine.

Schmorl's nodes are seen at multiple dorsal and lumbar levels.

Disc desiccation changes along with narrowing of disc space noted at L4-L5 level causing
narrowing of bilateral lateral recess and neural foramina with indentation of left exiting nerve root.
AP spinal canal diameter at this level is ~ 13 mm.

Narrowing of disc space with adjacent STIR hyperintense edema in the adjacent endplates at L5-S1
level.

Disc desiccation changes with posterocentral disc protrusion noted at L5-S1 level causing
narrowing of bilateral lateral recess and neural foramina with indention of left exiting and bilateral
traversing nerve roots. AP spinal canal diameter at this level is ~ 12 mm.

Posterior annular fissure is noted at L4-L5 and L5-S1 levels.

Vertebral bodies are normal in height, intensity and alignment.

Posterior spinal elements are normal.

Bony canal shows no evidence of any apparent canal stenosis.

Distal dorsal cord and conus medullaris region appear normal in MR morphology and signal intensity.

Pre and paravertebral soft tissues are normal.
