SYNOPSIS

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the effects of green tea leaves
extract on the mouth bacteria.

Introduction and history of Green Tea: Compounds present in green teas

have been shown to inhibit the growth and activity of bacteria associated
with mouth infections.
The origin of green tea began in China, tracing back to 2737 B.C. The
discovery occurred by accident when the Chinese Emperor Shennong
mistakenly drank water that had a dead tea leaf boiled in it. He found the
flavour refreshing, and thus, a new beverage was born.
Green tea is a type of tea that is made from Camellia sinensis leaves that
have not undergone the same withering and oxidation process used to
make oolong teas and black teas. Studies showed that green tea, due to its
ability to remove the mouth microbial contamination, can eliminate bad
breath or halitosis. Green tea helps toothpaste and mouthwashes fight
viruses by eliminating bacteria. Green tea originated in China, but its
production and manufacture has spread to many other countries in Asia.
Green tea extracts have been used in traditional Chinese and Indian
medicine for a variety of uses. Green tea leaves are initially processed by
soaking in an alcohol solution, which may be further concentrated to
various levels, by products of the process are also packaged and used.
Extracts may be solid in liquid, powder, capsules, or tablet form. Green tea
extract supplements are accessible over the counter in various forms.
Standardized green tea extract is 90 % total polyphenols, and 1 capsule is
equal to 5 cups of tea. Decaffeinated versions are also available.
Decaffeination is the removal of caffeine from coffee beans, cocoa, tea
leaves, and other caffeine-containing materials.

Green Tea Mouthwash: There was a meaningful difference between the

green tea mouthwashes containing 10% propylene glycol and the simple
green tea extract (P < 0.05). Significant difference was also seen between
the herbal and chemical mouthwashes (P < 0.05). The extract 1% tannin
containing 10% propylene glycol reduced the aerobic mouth bacterial load
of the student salvia about 64 percent. The pH monotonousness in different
days and temperatures approved the stability of tannin in liquid water
medium.

Health Effects of Tea: Although health benefits have been assumed

throughout the history of using Camellia sinensis as a common beverage,
there is no high-quality evidence that consuming tea confers significant
benefits other than possibly increasing alertness, an effect caused
by caffeine in the tea leaves. Drinking caffeinated tea may improve mental
alertness. For, rest other diseases in studies the outputs for effects of tea
were inconsistent.
mouthwash significantly reduces the volatile sulfur components level
in patients with gingivitis [13]. Another study has demonstrated that
green tea extract had the ability to remove odorant sulfur
Halitosis, due to dental caries and poor oral hygiene, is attributable
mainly due to volatile sulfur compounds. Few breath refreshing
chewing gums and mouth spray contain polyphenols, which are a major
ingredient of green tea [12]. A study has reported that using green tea
mouthwash significantly reduces the volatile sulfur components level
in patients with gingivitis [13]. Another study has demonstrated that

Case Study: Tea whether black, green, or white, when consumed on its
own by infusing in hot or cold water, contains very few calories. However,
most people favor milk tea. Adding milk to it not only reduces a host of
health benefits but may also diminish its value to a great extent. Medical
professionals recommend drinking tea without any flavor enhancer to
ensure obtaining the full extent of its benefits.

Sure, milk is a complete food, but adding it to black tea will add nothing to
the tea. Instead, it can prove to be ineffective. So, go ahead and drink tea to
boost your energy levels but remember to drink it in the raw form by
steeping it in hot water. You may add a drop of lemon to get rid of the bitter
taste instead of milk.

If you are eager to compare the pluses of green and milk tea, then it is the
green tea that gets to check a majority of boxes. Check out the details below
and choose the healthier option.

 Green tea has plenty of fluorides that are beneficial for bone & dental
health, but milk tea has a reduced amount of it
 Caffeine content is much less in green tea than in its black
counterpart. Mixing it later with milk may cause your heart to beat
faster and your blood pressure to go up
 An abundance of EGCG helps in blood circulation by protecting the
lining of blood vessels. By mixing adding milk to black tea you may
end up with not many benefits
 Green tea is believed to help in losing weight while the milk in tea
adds calories as many prefer it with sugar

Conclusion: Drinking green tea is a healthy habit to maintain a healthy life.

Various studies have demonstrated that green tea possesses antioxidant,
antimutagenic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral,
and above all, cancer-preventive properties. Yet it is not entirely clear
whether green tea potency is because of its phenolic ingredients or other
nutritional components. More research is needed to advocate the beneficial
mechanisms of green tea. Review of the literature concluded that green tea
taken as a daily supplement can improve the health status by increasing
alertness, helping in reducing weight, decreasing the risk of cardiovascular
diseases. Hence, it is considered to be a wholesome drink for a healthy
living
