Antioxidant Iced Green Tea

Need of product

This antioxidant iced green tea contains pomegranate juice with strawberry flavored green tea.

It’s the healthy value addition of a green tea by the addition of fresh juice to increase the

nutritional value and enhance the need of the product by the tasty combination for health-

oriented people. Pomegranate juice contains higher levels of antioxidants than most other fruit

juices. Pomegranate juice is a powerful anti-inflammatory because of its high concentration of

antioxidants. It can help reduce inflammation throughout the body and prevent oxidative stress

and damage and it’s in the running as the most heart-healthy juice. It appears to protect the heart

and arteries. It can reduce inflammation in the gut and improve digestion also cure other

inflammatory bowel diseases. Drinking 8 ounces of pomegranate juice a daily may improve

learning and memory, according to a recent study. Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants,

polyphenols and conjugated linolenic acid - all of which help you burn fat and boost your

metabolism. Pomegranate juice also helps in suppressing your appetite. It's a healthy alternative

to sugar loaded beverages. Sugar provides no nutritional benefits. Sugar generates excess

calories most of which is not required for body to run. As a result, they go get stored in the fat

cells. Pomegranate juice is a low-calorie healthy and sweet substitute to all the sugary beverages

you have often. People who need a tasty yet healthy beverage which helps them in weight loss

should give it a try. Coming forward to the next ingredient strawberry flavor in green tea which

is also a good source of antioxidants and other nutrients. Packed with vitamins, fiber, and

particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free,

fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. These potent little packages protect your heart,

increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Green tea
is the healthiest beverage on the planet and by mixing it with other healthy fruits its nutritional

value boosts up in antioxidant activity. There are powerful antioxidants in strawberries may work

against free radicals, inhibiting tumor growth and decreasing inflammation in the body. The

Vitamin C in strawberries boosts collagen production, tones the skin, and has an anti-aging

effect. So, combining these potent antioxidant sources takes nutritional benefits to the next level.

Which helps in reducing inflammation, anti-aging and weight loss all together.

Research and Literature Review

According to the scholarly articles, Pomegranate Juice and Green Tea products have increased in

popularity because of their beneficial health properties. Consumers look for healthier beverages,

and rely on labels, claims, and product packaging when choosing a product. An experiment was

done and the purpose of this study was to determine;

 The sensory profiles and acceptance of Pomegranate juice and Green Tea blends

 Additional information would have an effect on consumer acceptance

 The total phenolic content of the samples

The overall liking scores of all of the samples increased after the information was provided to the

consumers. The sample highest in Pomegranate juice and lowest in Green Tea blend was liked

the most. In addition, as the samples increased in pomegranate juice, the phenolic content

increased. These results may be of interest to the beverage industry, providing information of

consumer liking of beverage blends, and how information on health-related claims affects

consumer acceptance. [1]. The potential cardioprotective benefits of pomegranate juice deserves

further clinical investigation, and evidence to date suggests it may be sensible to include this fruit

juice in a heart-healthy diet.

Green tea is a ‘non-fermented’ tea, and contains more catechins, than black tea or oolong tea.

Catechins are in vitro and in vivo strong antioxidants. In addition, its content of certain minerals

and vitamins increases the antioxidant potential of this type of tea. Since ancient times, green tea

has been considered by the traditional Chinese medicine as a healthful beverage. Recent human

studies suggest that green tea may contribute to a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease

and some forms of cancer, as well as to the promotion of oral health and other physiological
functions such as anti-hypertensive effect, body weight control, antibacterial and antiviruses

activity, solar ultraviolet protection, bone mineral density increase, anti-fibrotic properties, and

neuroprotective power. Increasing interest in its health benefits has led to the inclusion of green

tea in the group of beverages with functional properties. [2]. The amino acid L-theanine (L-THE)

in green tea provides several health benefits like reduction of stress and anxiety and

improvement of mood. The review assessed the effect of pure L-THE intake, in the form of

nutritional supplements, on stress responses and anxiety levels in humans. As supplements are

medicines which are allowed for a certain time and not for life time dependency and some

conditions are recommended to be cured with food sources which have much more nutrition

along with that particular needed nutrient for particular condition. Our conclusions suggest that

supplementation of 200–400 mg/day of L-THE may assist in the reduction of stress and anxiety

in people exposed to stressful conditions. Despite this finding, longer-term and larger cohort

clinical studies, including those where L-THE is incorporated into the diet regularly, are needed

to clinically justify the use of L-THE as a therapeutic agent to reduce stress and anxiety in people

exposed to stressful conditions.[3]. Green tea is prepared in such a way as to preclude the

oxidation of green leaf polyphenols. Fresh tea leaf is unusually rich in the flavanol group of

polyphenols known as catechins which may constitute up to 30% of the dry leaf weight. Other

polyphenols include flavanols and their glycosides. Caffeine is present at an average level of 3%

along with very small amounts of the other common methylxanthines, theobromine and

theophylline. Green tea composition is very similar to that of the fresh leaf except for a few

enzymatically catalyzed changes which occur extremely rapidly following plucking. New

volatile substances are produced during the drying stage.[4]

The potential health benefits associated with dietary intake of fruits have fascinated increasing

interest. the strawberry is a rich source of several nutritive and non-nutritive bioactive

compounds, which are implicated in various health-promoting and disease preventive effects. It

is anti-microbial, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer. The review

provided the bioavailability and metabolism of major strawberry phytochemicals as well as their

actions in fighting many pathologies, including cancer, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular

disease, obesity, diabetes, neurodegeneration, along with microbial pathogenesis.[5]. The

strawberry represents a relevant source of micronutrients, such as minerals, vitamin C, folate and

phenolic substances, most of which are natural antioxidants and contribute to the high nutritional

quality of the fruit. All these compounds are essential for health and, in particular, strawberry

phenolics are best known for their antioxidant action, and possess directly and indirectly

antimicrobial, anti-allergy and anti-hypertensive properties.[6].

Cost of ingredients

Mineral water Rs 90

Strawberry Green tea (tea bags) Rs 130

Pomegranate juice Rs 300

Brown sugar Rs 20

Lemon Rs 10

After calculating individual cost of every ingredient then comes the cost of other things like

utility, labor, overall ingredients’ cost and at the end profit to calculate the sale price. If we talk

about price of iced green tea per glass so it would be Rs 250 because overall ingredient cost

would be divided to the total volume of the beverage.
