PART 1 – KEYBOARD QUESTIONS


***Please say each question out loud before you play your response at the keyboard.
Answer all three (3) questions in Part 1.

Question 1 – Cadences
• Play a Plagal Cadence in D harmonic minor.
• Play an Interrupted Cadence in A harmonic minor.

Question 2 – Chord progressions


• Play the progression I–vii06–I6–V in D major.
• Play the progression i–iv–V–i in A harmonic minor.

Question 3 – Melody and Bass


• Play the following short piece. Make sure you keep a steady tempo.

PART 2 – WRITTEN QUESTIONS
Answer all four (4) questions in Part 2. Please write neatly and legibly.
Question 1
Write the following progressions for SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass) on the staves below:
a) V4/2–i6 in F minor
b) V7–vi in B major
c) V6/5–i in C# minor

Write Roman numeral chord indications under the following piece:

Here is the same piece that you played for the keyboard component of this Assignment. The Soprano line is
given in the treble clef. The Bass line is given in the bass clef. Your task now is to:

• Add the Alto and Tenor voices.


• Use a different cadence for each phrase.
• Use the dominant 7th chord at places marked with an asterisk (*).
• Use the chord of viio in first inversion where appropriate.

Question 4
Add ATB (Alto, Tenor and Bass) below the given Soprano melody. Follow these steps:
• Write the Roman numeral chord indications (with superscripts where necessary). As part of this
process, you should:
o Identify the cadences.
o Use different positions of the dominant 7th chord at places marked with an asterisk (*).
• Write the Bass line.
• Then add the Alto and Tenor lines.
