1. Introduction
2. Solar energy equipments
3. ISO standards and importance
4. ISO for solar equipments
5. Reference
Introduction
• Raising population has led to drastic increase
in demand for energy
• The first solar device to produce electricity
was in 1883 by American inventor Charles
Fritts.
• Commercial concentrated solar power plants
were first developed in the 1980s
• National Solar Mission (NSM)
Solar energy equipments
• Solar equipment has its transformative effect
espectially on rural India.
Eg:
1. Solar dryers converting theowaway tomatoes
into sun dried once in Andra Pradesh.
2. Solar silk reeling machine reducing drudgery
for silk reelers in Odissa.
ISO standards and importance
• International Organization for Standardization
• A non-governmental international organization
• Develops and publishes a wide range of
standards
• Facilitate consistency and safety across
various industries.
• Enhances product quality but also boosts
consumer confidence
ISO for solar equipments

There are 2 types of ISO standards

1. Normative standards: Requirements that
must be met for auditing. Eg: ISO 14001
2. Informative standards: These are guidance
and requirements need not be audited. Eg:
ISO 14020, ISO 14040
ISO for solar equipments

1. ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems

2. ISO 14001: Environmental Management
Systems
3. ISO 50001: Energy Management Systems
4. ISO 61215 and ISO 61730: Photovoltaic
Module Standards
5. ISO 12976: Solar Energy Thermal Systems
ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems

1. ISO 9808: 1990 – Solar water heaters –

Electromagnetic materials for absorbers,
connecting pipes and fittings.
2. ISO 9806: 2017- Solar thermal collectors
3. ISO 9060: 2018 – Specification and
classification of instruments.
ISO 50001: Energy Management Systems

• Optimizing their energy consumption during

manufacturing processes.
• Reducing energy costs, and contributing to the
overall sustainability of the solar energy
supply chain.
ISO 61215 and ISO 61730: Photovoltaic
Module Standards

• ISO 61215 focuses on crystalline silicon

modules.
• ISO 61730 addresses safety considerations for
all types of PV modules.
ISO 12976: Solar Energy Thermal Systems

• Outlines guidelines for testing and

characterizing the performance of solar
collectors.

• Ensure that solar thermal systems efficiently

capture and utilize solar energy for various
applications, such as water heating and space
heating
• The quality, reliability, and safety of solar
energy equipment are essential to harnessing
its full potential.

• ISO standards provide a roadmap for

manufacturers to produce high-quality solar
equipment
