About the Author

ANURADHA BALACHANDRAN has been in the field of education

for the last 35 years and continues in the same with urge and
enthusiasm.

Teaching is her passion and is in her blood. She has served in some of
the best schools in India and is a retired Principal. More than 35000
students have learnt from her and grown to ‘heights’. Most of them are
business tycoons and doctors spread across the globe. She takes
pride in meeting these students on her visits to places.

As a founder member of Language cell she is the architect of the

Academic Section of Language cell. Designing the curriculum and
assigning suitable methodologies to convey the same to the
students are her forte. Learning with ease through games and
activities is her motto. She has been awarded for her dedication in
work and also for being an affectionate teacher.

She is well known amongst her students as a friendly, fair and

firm personality.
Conducting Personality Development Classes, Spoken English
Classes and Debates are some of her activities for seekers. She has
travelled through many places in India and is exposed to diverse
cultures. She enjoys the multifariousness of cultures walking through
the thread of unity that every culture manifests.

She desires to help one million students become effective users of

As a child in your elementary classes, you were made to learn
the multiplication table by- heart.
Do you think it was necessary? Of course, Yes. Why? Because
you can't wait to add up to reach the answer,

for eg
six times three is
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 +3 +3
that is
03 + 03 = 6
06 + 03 = 9
09 + 03 = 12
12 + 03 = 15
15 + 03 = 18

Imagine how your calculations would have been had you
not learnt the multiplication tables.
The idea I am trying to drive into you is that rote learning
is also necessary.

In English, the three forms of verbs - V1, V2, V3 are very

important. Most of the verbs take an ‘ed’ to form the
V2 -past tense and the same ‘ed’ to form the
V3 -past participle
for eg -play - played - played.

But not all verbs follow this rule. Eg - go - went - gone

In English language learning also there are certain tables
to be memorized.

In Mathematics you atleast have a regular process of

arriving at the answer, but in English you do not have
such. So take your own time and memorize the V1, V2
and V3 of the following verbs.

This list is just a small part of a large list. I have chosen
some of the most important verbs for you.
Make a schedule to learn this. Make a group of five verbs
for a day and regularly memorize them.

Another method is the method I used in my classes. This

was a 40 days regular activity. A leader is chosen for a
day, who reads it out loud to the others.

All students repeat after the leader. Thus they get

familiarized with the verbs and they enjoy the activity also.

The past is always tense, the future

perfect.
