Description

The study examines nursing students' experience using an escape room as a

training tool for clinical skills and competencies in emergency care. The qualitative

observational study involved nursing students who participated in the escape room

game and completed a questionnaire. The findings show that the escape room game

was a positive experience for the students, providing a fun, dynamic, and motivating

way to study and learn. It also promoted teamwork and the ability to work under

pressure. Students expressed a desire for more games like this in nursing education.

The study concludes that the escape room is a useful tool for evaluating nursing

students' knowledge and can be used to promote teamwork and working under

pressure.

The study highlights potential drawbacks of using an escape room for nursing

students, such as the time and preparation required, waiting time between groups, and

varying opinions on the game's difficulty and usefulness. Despite this, the study
suggests that nursing educators should use a range of teaching methods to cater to

different learning preferences.

Nursing Implication

The article suggests using an escape room game as a training tool for

nursing students to assess their knowledge and competencies in emergency care, and

promote teamwork and the ability to work under pressure. This provides a more

engaging and interactive form of evaluation and helps students identifies areas of

improvement. Furthermore, the positive experience reported by nursing students also

suggests that incorporating gamified learning activities, such as escape rooms, into

nursing education can enhance motivation and engagement. By making learning more

enjoyable and dynamic, students may be more motivated to actively participate in their

education and retain the knowledge and skills they acquire.

Overall, the findings of the study suggest that using an escape room game in

nursing education can have several benefits, including improved assessment of

knowledge and competencies, enhanced teamwork skills, and increased student

motivation. Incorporating gamified learning activities into nursing education can

contribute to the development of competent and engaged nurses which is necessary

especially in Intensive care unit where critical thinking and rationalization is essential..

As a student nurse, this article could impact my nursing practice by the addition of

new knowledge related to enhancing nursing skills. This enables me to become aware

of the various therapeutic care that I could offer to my future clients which would result

in excellent or not better nursing practice that I could provide especially on those

individuals that suffer from substance abuse and withdrawal.
