a. Why did the Catholic Church actively oppose the passing of the Rizal Bill?

The Catholic Church actively oppose the passing of the Rizal bill because they feel
like the bill would violate their religion. Rizal’s works, Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo is a novel that unmask the brutality and wrongdoings of Spanish rule. The
church got involve with this because some priests are also involve with it. It describes
how abusive the official is. They use the religion or the church to cover up their
wrongdoings. Rizal, fighting for the Filipinos by letting them know what is actually
happening make the church scared because they think that the Filipinos will not look at
them the same. They think that Rizal only write his novel to attack them.

b. What provision from the Rizal Bill allowed the government to approve it that answers the
arguments provided by the Catholic Church?

Before Rizal's books were taught in schools, the legislators, especially Recto,
consented to the condition that the morally objectionable portions be toned down. It was
referred to as the abridged versions. It was also agreed that these materials would only
be taught to students in colleges and universities.

c. Did the Church's views on the study of Jose Rizal's life and works change over the years?
Why or why not?

I think Church’s views on the study of Jose Rizal’s life and works change over the
years. Studying Rizal’s life and works over the years gave us a complete view on how
Jose Rizal plays a significant role to our lives. Risking his life for us even if there are lots
of Filipinos oppose and do not believe in him is a proof that he, making his novels to
unravel the truth is for the Filipinos to open their eyes and make them see what is actually
happening and not because he wanted to attack the church.

d. What is the Rizal Law all about? Why do we need to study the Rizal Law?

Republic Act 1425 is the main focus for the implementation of the Rizal course as
a requirement for all students enrolled in different schools and universities. This law
promotes a deeper sense of nationalism among Filipinos at a time when the nation's
identity is fading. Rizal Law offers us lessons from all the historical events that have
happened while also developing in us a sense of patriotism. Students may be motivated
to dedicate their lives to the principles of liberty and nationalism for which our heroes
sacrificed themselves after learning about Rizal. Additionally, through studying Rizal's life,
accomplishments, and writings, we may honor our national hero for devoting his time and
energy to strengthening the Filipino character and finding a source of patriotism that
inspires us.
