Safety requirements
The safety requirements for the control, operation, maintenance and repair of
the system must comply with the Occupational health and safety management
systems (B S OHSAS 18001:2007), Safety Rules for Operation of Customers’
Electrical Installations, Rules for Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry, Interindustry Rules
on Labor Safety.
When the supply voltage is applied to VSD and the circuit breaker of the «0-SUT»
downhole measuring system of the VSD is on, a voltage of 100 V is supplied.
Therefore, you must comply with the relevant electrical safety requirements when
installing the pumping unit.

ATTENTION! Installation of the TM01-05/15/25/28 must be carried out when the


power supply of ESM and the VSD are completely switched off.

All actions for installation, assembly, dismantling, operation and Downhole


Measuring System maintenance must be performed in accordance with applicable
local and electrical codes. Inappropriate installation and operation of Downhole
Measuring System may result in personal injury or equipment damage. When
installing, maintaining, repairing, it is important to monitor lack of voltage at the input
and output terminals and wires.
Before starting work with the Downhole Measuring System, employees must:
be specially trained and examined in labor protection issues;
attend a preliminary medical examination (when hired for work) and periodic health
examinations (during the entire labor activity);
have electrical safety qualification.
At conducting connection to the power supply line a special attention must be
paid to ensuring of reliable grounding of SB/SP casing.
Grounding resistance must meet the local and national requirements.
When performing any work with the Downhole Measuring System, security
measures must be taken:
· disconnect power to the VSD;
· disconnect power SC/SB/SP.
ATTENTION! Filter capacitors retain charge life threatening. Before
working with downhole measuring system, make sure that
capacitors are de-energized.

Safety recommendation
Downhole measuring system must be installed, adjusted and serviced by
qualified electrical maintenance personnel. Improper installation or operation may
cause injury to personnel or damage to equipment. The Downhole measuring system
must be installed and grounded in accordance with local and national electrical
codes. There is a high level of voltage in drive’s cabinet. Extreme care must be taken
to ensure all power sources are disconnected before starting installation,
maintenance and repair jobs. Once repairs are completed, the Downhole measuring
system connections must be reestablished.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)


The basic personal protection equipment (PPE) required for field service
includes, but is not limited to, steel toe shoes, safety glasses and a hard hat. If
electrical configuration or maintenance is performed on potentially energized circuits,
personal protective equipment is required to minimize the danger or electrical shock,
arc flash and/or arc blast. The level of PPE required can vary based upon the available
electrical energy available at the installation site. If any doubt exists, consult and
employ the recommendations published in the National Fire Protection Code, NFPA-
70E. Always be aware of and conform to the applicable local fire and electrical safety
regulations.

Safety Procedures
Work inside the cabinets must be performed with the power off. Isolate energy
source(s) and use proper Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure personnel safety. The Panel/Board also
contains stored sources of energy in the form of capacitors. Allow sufficient time
after power is removed for those capacitors to discharge to a safe level below 50 V
DC.

Description
General information about Triol TM01-05/15/25/28 Downhole
Measuring System
Triol TM01-05/15/25/28 Downhole Measuring System is unique, premium,
highly accurate and reliable solution for systems where is a need to accurately
monitor pressure and temperature (only Triol TM01-15/25/28) at pump discharge; to
collect, process, display and quickly transfer submersible equipment actual
parameters, at fluid temperature of 125°C (257°F) for Triol TM01-05/15, 150°C
(302°F) for Triol TM01-25 and 175°C (347°F) for TM01-28, fluid temperature at pump
discharge up to 250°C (428°F) (only Triol TM01-15/25/28) and equipment
suspension zone pressure up to 40 MPa (5800 psi).

Downhole Measuring System Triol TM01-05/15/25/28 provides control over


critical parameters of the submersible equipment:
• discharge pressure;
• intake pressure;
• discharge temperature (only Triol TM01-15/25/28);
• intake temperature;
• submersible motor oil temperature or the temperature of the motor stator
winding;
• insulation resistance in the circuit “Step-up transformer – submersible cable -
ESM”;
• ESM vibration acceleration in the X, Y and Z axis .

Functionally, Downhole Measuring System Triol TM01-05/15/25/28 consists of


three blocks:
• Surface unit located inside a drive (Triol Surface Board or Triol
Surface Card) or separately in a protected box (Triol Surface Panel)
for controlling an electric drive of oil-producing equipment
• submersible intake sensor. Connected at the bottom of an ESM (TM01-
05i/15i/25i/28i);
• submersible discharge sensor. Connected between a pump and tubing
(TM01-05d/15d/25d/28d).

The Surface unit can be built into a VSD – in this case it has IP20 enclosure and
either has a display for displaying parameters (Triol Surface Card) or does not have a
display (Triol Surface Board) – or be installed next to a VSD in a protected box with
an IP56 enclosure, and have UMKA-04 controller with a display (Triol Surface Panel).

The connection of the submersible units is carried out through one (Triol
TM01-05) or two (Triol TM01-15/25/28) channels bу stainless steel tubes.
Each tube has a diameter 1/4 in 316L (length - 50 m / 164,04 ft). The first
is filled with formation fluid - to control pump discharge pressure. The
second one contains а conductor with а temperature sensor inside.
Electronics, for processing pressure and temperature signals, is located in
intake sensor (TM01-05i/15i/25i/28i).
Additionally, TM01-05/15/25/28 product can include options (these options are
ordered as a separate item):
- module for digital and analog I/O;
- motor bases, motor/flange adapters for connecting submersible units to
ESMs and ESPs of various sizes;
- external High-Voltage Choke for making a “wye point” in a ground-based
transformer;
- TM01 testing complex (Triol Test unit TM01) for monitoring and testing the
performance of TM01-25 system and controlling equipment during its
assembly, installation, and trip in hole; Test Unit can act as a submersible unit
simulator (Simulator TM01i);
- submersible unit simulator (Simulator TM01i) for the Surface unit testing;
- modem for transmitting the collected data over the wireless channel (SCP
Modem). External High-Voltage Choke can be made in two versions IP20 (for
installation in the case of a power transformer - Triol High-Voltage Choke
IP20) or IP56 (for installation next to the power transformer in a separate case
- Triol High-Voltage Choke IP56).

Submersible units description


Triol Downhole Intake Sensor TM01-05i/15i/25i/28i is a submersible unit
located at the bottom of a ESM. Triol Downhole discharge sensor TM01-
05d/15d/25d/28d is a submersible unit located between a pump and tubing.
Connection of submersible units is carried out through one (Triol TM01-05) or two
(Triol TM01-15/25/28) channels bу stainless steel tubes. Each tube has a diameter
1/4 in 316L (length - 50 m / 164,04 ft). The first is filled with formation fluid - to control
pump discharge pressure. The second one contains а conductor with а temperature
sensor inside. Electronics, for processing pressure and temperature signals, is
located in the lower submersible unit (TM01-05i/15i/25i/28i).

Follow the steps given below to start the ТМ01:
1. Mounting and connections Triol Downhole Intake Sensor TM01-
05i/15i/25i/28i.
2. Mounting and connections Triol Downhole Intake Sensor TM01-
05d/15d/25d/28d.
3. Mounting and connections Triol Surface Card/Board/Panel.
4. Mounting and connections Triol High-Voltage Choke.

If need workshop testing connect with service engineer, for take


recommendation on testing process by your equipment.
Testing without recommendation can damage downhole equipment.

Fully insert the tube into the body of the


fitting installed in housing of the Downhole sensor
intake; tightly rotate the connection. Then tighten
the connection until the tube does not turn by
hand or move axially in the fitting.

Mark the nut at the 6 o’clock position.

While holding the fitting body steady, tighten the connection one and one-
quarter turns to the 9 o’clock position. Further rotation of the body fitting must be
excluded.

Re-use or use damage fitting is not allowed. Replace fitting body


(1/4”) installed in the enclosure gauge. Tighten the connection of
the fitting body up to three turns or 100 Nm.

Mounting discharge temperature line TM01-15i/25i/28i


TM01-15i/25i/28i has two type of trasportation protection discharge
temperature line connection, both shown at figure 15. Figure 15a transportation cap
fixed by screw, that allow to install sensor without discharge temperature line. Does
not remove transportation cap if discharge temperature will not use

Remove the plug before installation. Remove the screw M8x25 DIN 912 via an
allen key 7,0 mm. Remove the washer 6 DIN 7980.

The discharge temperature line is installed and the screw and washer are fixed
with temperature line. Tighten the screw as far as it must go.

Band the Discharge Pressure Line and Discharge Temperature Line every 1
meter along a motor enclosure. Then band the lines along with a Motor Lead
Extension cable to an ESP string enclosure.

Re-use or use damage fitting is not allowed. Replace fitting body


(1/4”) installed in the enclosure gauge. Tighten the connection of
the fitting body up to three turns or 100 Nm.
Installation of the fitting can be found in the section “Mounting
discharge pressure line TM01-15i/25i/28i”.

Measure the correct length of Discharge Line of 1/4” from the fitting of the
Discharge Pressure Sub and cut the Discharge Line using a pipe cutter

Measure a length of 180 mm from the fitting and cut off the tube with 2 wires
with a pipe cutter (supplied). Remove the remaining tube with wires to the side.

Measure 130 mm from the edge of the tube


and cut only the tube.
Take the fluoroplastic stopper (supplied).
Insert 2 wires through the holes in the plug. Install
the plug inside the tube by rotating it, firmly
pressing it to the edge.
Try on the exhaust manifold to the
Discharge Temperature Port. Tube fitting 1/4 in. In
order for the tube to freely enter the fitting, we
bend the line according to the configuration of the
equipment to the stop.

The bending radius of the tube must be at least 50 mm.


The straight portion of the tube must be at least 21 mm (13/16
inches) long.
Install nut and crimp rings with fitting on tube ¼.

Before connecting the equipment, it is necessary to measure TM01-25i


insulation resistance. Take measurements using a mega meter or another similar
device. Then follow the next steps: connect the probe with sign “+” to the equipment,
the probe with sign “-” to “0”-ESM. DC voltage measurements must not exceed 5 kV.
The value of insulation resistance must be at least 100 MΩ.

Testing with Test Unit TM01


Data rate of all parameters of Downhole sensor every 20 seconds, 5 of which is
the measurement of insulation resistance. To check the Downhole sensor, it is
necessary to connect the Test Unit to the Downhole sensor according to Figure 41.
Connect with Test Unit off.
Follow these steps:
- Connect the plug to the “0-SUT” connector (0-SUT cable), connect the
response part of the terminals with a “+” value (red clamp) to the “0-ESM” of the
Downhole sensor, and a “-” (black clamp) to the unit body.
- Select “Intake” mode on the Test Unit and turn on the device.
After the actions are completed, the device turns on and within 5 seconds a
measurement of insulation resistance of 100 V takes place. After measuring the
insulation resistance, a survey of the Downhole sensor is carried out for 15 seconds
(receiving data from a Downhole sensor). Data from the sensors is obtained after 3
cycles of polling the Downhole sensor (60 sec.). Downhole sensor polling cycles
continues until the Test Unit is turned off. To observe the current settings, select
“Downhole sensors”, then “DMS settings”. By pressing the button you can
navigate through the menu and view the status and current Downhole sensor
parameters.

If there is no sensor, the screen displays “0.00 No Sensor” on the Test Unit
screen.
For ТМ01-05: there is no sensor “Temperature on discharge” and it must be
written “no sensor”.
For TM01-15/25/28: all sensors must be displayed.
Winding temperature always displays “0.00 No Sensor”.
If one of the sensors fails, then the message “sensor fault” is displayed.
The Downhole sensor is serviceable if the data of all sensors is received by the
Test Unit (there are no sensor failures).
Test unit works with insulation resistance of 10 kOhm. at a lower value, the
device goes into emergency mode (the red lamp "Alarm" lights up on the Test Unit),

and there is no interrogation of the Downhole sensor until the insulation resistance
value is above 10 kOhm.
