Well Test
DRAW DOWN TEST
Well Test (drawdown)
Well test (Flow test )
this part will discuss flow test in wells including constant rate drawdown in infinite –
acting reservoir.
The objective of drawdown test include estimates of permeability ( K) , skin factor (s),
and reservoir volume.
This test is applicable for
1- new wells.
2- wells that have been shut-in for long time to allow the pressure to stabilize .
3- well in which loss of revenue incurred in a build up test would be difficult to accept.
Well Test (drawdown)

An idealized constant rate drawdown test in an infinite acting reservoir is

modeled by the following approximation :

𝑄𝑜∗𝐵𝑜∗𝜇𝑜 1688∗∅∗𝜇𝑜∗𝐶𝑡∗𝑟𝑤2
𝑃𝑤𝑓 = 𝑃𝑖 + 162.6 𝑘∗ℎ 𝑙𝑜𝑔 𝑘∗𝑡
−0.869∗𝑆

TYPICAL CONSTANT RATE DRAWDOWN GRAPH BETWEEN Pwf vs. time
Well Test (drawdown)
The usual test has an ETR, MTR and LTR
ETR EARLY TIME REGION (is usually dominated by well bore unloading)
MTR MIDDLE TIME REGION ( the MTR begin when the ETR ends. In the MTR ,a plot of Pwf vs. log time is
a straight line with slope m, given by:

162.6 ∗ 𝑄𝑜 ∗ 𝐵𝑜 ∗ 𝜇𝑜
𝑚=
𝑘ℎ
the permeability can be estimated from this slope:
162.6 ∗ 𝑄𝑜 ∗ 𝐵𝑜 ∗ 𝜇𝑜
𝑘=
𝑚ℎ
skin factor can be determine from the equation setting t=1 hour

Well Test (drawdown)

LTR LATE TIME REGION

begins when the radius of investigation reaches a portion of the reservoir influenced by reservoir
boundaries or massive heterogeneities
for a well centered in a square or circle drainage area, this occurs at a time given approximation by:

380 ∗ ∅ ∗ 𝜇 ∗ 𝑐𝑡 ∗ 𝐴
𝑡𝑙𝑡 =
𝑘

where A: is the drainage area of the tested well
