Actuator selection guidelines 9

F
o
8.1 General H
H
Actuated valve malfunctions are often due to the under sizing of actuators; the initial material cost saving8
is usually insignificant, compared with the costly production losses and/or danger presented to$

Conversely, it is even more important, that excessive

may result in selectgd actuators being capable of twis
a feedback signal that does not correspond to the va
valve applications e.g, ESD (Emergency Shut Down)
of actuator is selected together with any associated ancillary equipment.
-3
To obtain all the information it may be necessary to question the end user, the contractor/designer, thel
valve manufacturer, the actuator manufacturer and ancillary equipment manufacturers. The aim of these{
guidelines is to provide a clear understanding of the torque requirements and what parameters affect theE
correct actuator selection; relevant questions need to be answered regarding the valve operating service,l
the actuator working parameters/environment, ancillary equipment and local regulations. o
