GRAPHING SYSTEM OF

LINEAR INEQUALITIES IN
TWO VARIABLES
REVIEW:
➢How do we graph linear inequalities in two
variables
*Slope-Intercept Form?
*General Form?
The graph of the solution of a system of
linear equations in two variables may
consist of intersecting lines,
coincident/overlapping lines, or parallel
lines. What is the graph of the solution set of
a system of linear inequalities in two
variables obtained?
The graph of the solution of a system of two linear
inequalities in two variables is the graph of the
solution set common to both linear inequalities
when graphed together on the same coordinate
plane.
Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 1:
𝒙+𝒚<𝟑

𝒙 − 𝒚 ≥ −𝟏

Graph of 𝑥 + 𝑦 < 3 Graph of 𝑥 − 𝑦 ≥ −1

Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 1:
𝒙+𝒚<𝟑

𝒙 − 𝒚 ≥ −𝟏

Solution Set
Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 2:
𝒙+𝒚≥𝟏

𝟐𝒙 + 𝒚 ≤ −𝟑

Graph of 𝑥 + 𝑦 ≥ 1 Graph of 2𝑥 + 𝑦 ≤ −3
Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 2:
𝒙+𝒚≥𝟏

𝟐𝒙 + 𝒚 ≤ −𝟑
Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 3:
𝒙+𝒚≥𝟐

𝟐𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 ≤ −𝟒

Graph of 𝑥 + 𝑦 ≥ 2 Graph of 2𝑥 + 2𝑦 ≤ −4
Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 3:
𝒙+𝒚≥𝟐

𝟐𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 ≤ −𝟒

Hence, no solution
since there is no
common solution
set in both linear
inequalities.
Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 4:
𝒙 + 𝒚 ≥ −𝟑

𝟐𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 < 𝟒

Graph of 𝑥 + 𝑦 ≥ −3 Graph of 2𝑥 + 2𝑦 < 4

Graph the following system of linear inequalities.
EXAMPLE 4:
𝒙 + 𝒚 ≥ −𝟑

𝟐𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 < 𝟒
