Stress in the workplace has increased dramatically in the last few years. World
Mental Health Day on October 10th has reinforced the need to take action on mental
health issues. Maintaining a balance between work, school and personal life is
incredibly challenging and can take a toll on people’s mental health if not managed
effectively.

One of the best ways to improve mental health is to start your day with yoga or
meditation. Do not look at your cell phone when you start your day. This practice
can healthily ease you in the day. Beginning your day with mindfulness is very
important. Focus on your strengths and not weaknesses. This will give us a sense of
accomplishment. Accept yourself and stop comparing yourself to others. Know that
you are not alone. Find someone you can trust like a family member, friend, mentor,
or coach. Share the untold story inside of you. Expose yourself to nature as it benefits
you both physically and psychologically. A short walk can refresh you.

A healthy work-life balance is vital for mental well-being. Set boundaries between
work, school, and personal time. Dedicate moments for relaxation, hobbies, exercise,
and spending time with loved ones to recharge. Try to help others or volunteer as it
reduces stress and improves self-esteem. Find humor as laughter is the best medicine
for your body.

Having effective time management is the cornerstone of managing multiple

responsibilities. Creating a detailed schedule that allocates time for work, school,
and personal life is important. Prioritizing tasks and breaking them down into
manageable chunks can help with having effective time management. Setting
achievable goals can provide a sense of accomplishment.

Physical health significantly impacts mental health. Prioritize regular exercise,

maintain a balanced diet, and ensure you get enough sleep. These habits boost
resilience against stress and enhance your cognitive abilities.

Balancing work, school, and other commitments can be a complex and demanding
task. However, by implementing these strategies, you can protect your mental health
and maintain a sense of equilibrium. Always remember that self-care should always
be a priority, and seeking help when needed is a sign of strength, not weakness. In
this delicate balancing act, you can achieve success without compromising your
well-being.
