ASSIGNMENT 1

1. What do you mean by dependent source?

2. What is the difference between ideal and practical voltage source?
3. What do you mean by dependent source?
4. What are the types of elements?
5. Why we need electricity and what are the types of supply?
6. Find current in 40Ω by using kvl.

7. Find current in I5 when I1= 3A, I2 = 1A, I3= 2A, I4= 6A

8. Convert the following logic gate circuit into a Boolean expression, writing
Boolean sub-expressions next to each gate output in the diagram:
9. Design a circuit for Y= A’BC’ + AB’C + ABC’.
10. Draw the given function using gates : F=∑(0,2,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,14) .
11. Simplify A’B’C + AB’C’ + A’BC’ + ABC Using Boolean algebra.
12. Obtain the output of given expression: (45)8 + (54)8.
13. Design a circuit, whose output is 1 for every even input of a 3-bit number.
14. Convert (A8.4E7)16 into Octal and Binary.
15. Determine the value of base if:
a. (211)x = (152)8 b. (193)x = (623)8
16. What is meant by standard SOP form? Convert the following function in standard
SOP and POS form.
F (A, B, C, D) = A’ + BCD’ + AC’
17. An automotive engineer wants to design a logic circuit that prohibits the engine in
a car from being started unless the driver is pressing the clutch pedal while
turning the ignition switch to the “start” position. The purpose of this feature will
be to prevent the car from moving forward while being started if ever the
transmission is accidentally left in gear. Suppose we designate the status of the
ignition switch “start” position with the Boolean variable S (1 = start; 0 = run or
off), and the clutch pedal position with the Boolean variable C (1 = clutch pedal
depressed; 0 = clutch pedal in normal, unpressed position). Write a Boolean
expression for the starter solenoid status, given the start switch (S) and clutch (C)
statuses. Then, draw a logic gate circuit to implement this Boolean function.

18. An engineer hands you a piece of paper with the following Boolean
expression on it, and tells you to build a gate circuit to perform that
function:
AB’ + C’(A + B)
Draw a logic gate circuit for this function.
19. Design a R-L series circuit? Determine its impedance, waveform and relevant
voltage current phasor diagram.
20. Design a R-L-C series circuit? Determine its impedance, waveform and relevant
voltage current phasor diagram.
