Summary
This report discusses the challenges stemming from excess inventory in the
logistics system of Nike, a global leader in the design, development,
manufacturing, and marketing of sports equipment; Through research, a solution is
proposed to improve the effectiveness of the supply chain; This solution would be
the implementation of a monitoring system. An effectively implemented monitoring
system empowers businesses to vigilantly observe, analyze, and address
challenges associated with inventory, thereby fostering a more efficient and
responsive approach to supply chain management.

Introduction
Nike, the multinational company dedicated to the design, development,
manufacturing and marketing of sports equipment, has been affected by problems
due to excess inventory; Effective inventory management is a vital component to
the operational and financial success of any business. However, excess inventory
represents a significant challenge that can have negative consequences on
multiple aspects of the business. This phenomenon not only impacts a company's
financial resources, but also has ramifications on key areas such as profitability,
liquidity and efficiency. operational. In this context, we will explore how excess
inventory can affect companies, analyzing its consequences both internally and in
relation to customers and the market in general.

Definition of the problem

Excess inventory, this occurs when a company accumulates more products than it
can sell or use in a reasonable period of time; It can be caused by various factors,
such as incorrect demand estimates, sudden changes in market trends, or supply
chain issues.

Construction of the model

Nike reported its excess inventory that was driven by supply chain issues and
partially offset by strong consumer demand. One of the main causes to which Nike
attributes these results is the closure of trade in China, its third largest market by
turnover.

Solution of the model

The possible short-term solution for Nike is implementing pricing, promotions and
discount strategies to stimulate demand and reduce the accumulated inventory; if
there’s still a significant amount of inventory, then Nike should start to consider

liquidating obsolete or slow-moving products through significant discounts to free
up space and recoup some of their investment. But since the problem was caused
by problems in the supply chain, a possible, long-term, solution is to improve the
supply chain efficiency to reduce costs associated with storage and transportation;
as well as, to establish continuous monitoring systems to evaluate inventory
performance in real time. A well-implemented monitoring system enhances the
ability of businesses to monitor, analyze, and respond to inventory-related
challenges, ultimately supporting more efficient and agile supply chain
management.

Validation of the Model

A testing phase will be implemented to validate how effective the monitoring
system is; this phase would involve the comparison of the inventory stats along
with the customers satisfaction, before and after the application of the new system;
if the results show that the system is effective, then the implementation phase can
be started

Implementation of the solution

Implementing an inventory monitoring system at Nike, requires a structured
approach to ensure a smooth and effective transition; it is crucial to provide
comprehensive training for employees who will be using the new system, a pilot
test should be conducted on a specific location first to gather feedback and make
any necessary changes before applying the new system in all locations. After
carrying out the new structure, it will be required to frequently update the system as
demand changes

Conclusion
In this report we analyzed the logistics system of Nike and their problem with
excess inventory; we searched for ways that it can enhance its inventory
management capabilities, improve accuracy, reduce costs, and better meet
customer demand through a more efficient supply chain; to improve the
effectiveness of the supply chain, a monitoring system can be carried out, it can be
instrumental in addressing excess inventory issues by providing real-time visibility,
data analysis, and proactive decision-making.
