Generic Strategy

A generic strategy is inclusive approach to placing a company within its industry. Executives
may concentrate on the essential components of their companies' business-level strategies and
avoid competing in the markets that other generic strategies serve better by focusing on a single
generic strategy. This paper used a Porter’s generic strategy; Cost leadership is minimizing the
expenses related to offering a client or customer value (a product or service). Differentiation is
the process of making one's services stand out from those of rivals in the market. Cost focus
refers to reducing expenses in a targeted market. Finally, the Differentiation Focus indicates to a
focus on differentiating oneself from rivals in a targeted market. This kind of strategy also
provides a hedge against other markets and product life cycles, allowing cash flow to pour in
even if certain items decrease while others grow or mature. Companies can achieve a
competitive advantage by either lowering costs or distinguishing their products from competitors
along the most significant client criteria in order to charge a higher price. Companies can gain a
competitive advantage by picking between a broad focus strategy of selling things to specific
market segments and a narrow focus strategy of delivering products to as many market groups as
possible through niche marketing.
