ACTIVITY 5: Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development

This activity focuses on a story involving the interaction of family members. Choose
a story you want to use for this activity. It can be from a story you have read or a
movie or "telenovela" that you watched or plan to watch.

Title of the Story/Movie: Every Child is Special

Write a brief summary of the story: The story is about an 8-year-old boy named
Ishaan who cannot cope up with the academic demands in school. He even
finds it hard to read because the letters are moving or dancing. He also can’t
write correctly, and his letters and numbers are sometimes inverted. He is then in
danger to repeat his grade level. Because of his difficulties in school, his parents
decided to move him to a new school that they expect to help him. This made
Ishaan depressed knowing his family disband him. Out of the blue, a new teacher
has arrived in their school that will help Ishaan find himself.

Description
Father What is his stage of cognitive development?
Formal Operational Stage
- Ishaan’s father is in the Formal Operational Stage
because he thinks more about moral, philosophical,
ethical, social, and political issues that require
theoretical and abstract reasoning. For example, he
and his wife decided to move Ishaan to a new school
that they think would teach him better. He is also very
strict to academics and reputation. He is usually
disappointed at Ishaan and constantly tells him what
a success Yohan is.

(What s/he thought of, how s/he thought, his/her reactions
and attitudes)
1. Ishaan I think Ishaan is in the Preoperational stage because he
thinks symbolically and learn to use words and pictures to
represent objects. He is also egocentric and struggled to
see things from the perspective of others.
2. Yoohan I think Yoohan is in the Concrete Operation Stage since he
begins to think logically about concrete events. He also
become less egocentric and begin to think about how
other people might think and feel and understand that their
thoughts are unique to them and that not everyone else
necessarily shares their thoughts, feelings, and opinions. For
example, he accepted Ishaan for who is he and still love
him.

(What s/he thought of, how s/he thought, his/her reactions
and attitudes)
1. Ram I think Ram is in the Formal Operational Stage because he
has the ability to think about abstract ideas, situations, and
systematically plan for the future. For an instance, his fun
personality spreads joy among the students in his class. He
wants the students to embrace that not everything should
be as serious as it is. He also guides his students toward
becoming productive and contributing individuals.
