Syllabus: Developing English Speaking Skills

Duration: 3 months

Class Goal:
To improve the pronunciation and fluency of the speaker for a better development in the
language.

Class Description:
This course focuses on the development of English speaking skills. Students will improve
their pronunciation to communicate clearly and coherently.

Method / Methodology:
Classes will include hands-on activities, discussions, individual and group presentations.
Active participation will be encouraged to improve confidence in speaking English.

Audio Lingual Method (ALM)


1. Emphasis on Listening and Repetition:
A strong emphasis is placed on oral practice. Students listen to language patterns and then
repeat to develop correct pronunciation and intonation.
2. Patterns and Structures:
Grammatical patterns and structures are introduced in a systematic manner. The repetition
of these structures helps to internalize them and automate responses.
3. Minimization of Grammatical Explanation:
Explicitly explaining grammatical rules is avoided. Students are expected to acquire
grammar in a similar way to how they learn their native language.
4. Use of Dialogues and Everyday Situations:
Dialogues represent situations from everyday life. It focuses on functional, practical
language that students can use in real-life situations.
5. Use of Tapes and Recordings:
Recording technology is used to provide authentic speech models. Students listen and
repeat, seeking to imitate pronunciation and rhythm.
6. Active Learning:
Students actively participate in repetition exercises, pattern transformation, and structured
practice.

1 Introduction and Diagnostic Evaluation: Course objectives, evaluation


methods, student expectations.

2 Basic Skills Development: Pronunciation and intonation, essential vocabulary


to express oneself clearly.

3 Conversation Practice: Regular conversation sessions, everyday topics and


practical situations.

4 Interactive Activities: Discussions on current issues, role-playing games to


simulate real situations, interviews and short presentations.

5 Vocabulary Expansion: Specific words and expressions for different contexts,


short readings and discussions to expand the lexicon.

6 Culturalization: Study of colloquial expressions, knowledge of cultural


differences in communication.

7 Final Project: Oral presentation on a topic of interest, comprehensive


assessment of acquired skills.

everyday expressions.

news.

TED Talks: Engaging talks on various topics for advanced listening practice.
