    STATISTICAL PACKAGE FOR SOCIAL SCIENCE ASSIGNMENT 1

    With the excel database (assignment 1) you will:

    1. Identify and list categorical and continuous variables.

    2. Calculate frequencies and percentages for all of the categorical variables, and

    means, and standard deviations for the continuous variables.

    3. Run an independent samples t-test to compare two groups of people (specified

    by a dichotomous variable) on one continuous variable. Using .05 level of

    significant test the appropriate hypotheses. Write the null and alternative

    hypotheses.

    4. What is the calculated mean for each group?

    5. What is the critical t value? Is the p-value significant? Conclusion?

    NOTE

    In the database Use the codebook (worksheet) section to label and value label the

    variable

    Notes:

    Use 1.5 spacing and font size of 11.
