PRE-TEST Of FINAL TEST BAHASA SASTRA INGGRIS
This poem is for question number 1 to 2.
What do I see in you?
I see mountains and rivers a lifetime of joy,
I see the sun shining on the greyest day,
I see clouds of silver lining my way,
What do I see in you?
Oceans of blue,
Colourful rainbows, morning dew,
Trees of glory displaying leaves of green,
I see goodness and beauty in all living things.
I hear creatures of darkness prowling the night,
But I'm safe in your arms as you hold me real tight,
I feel the whispers of the wind entwining my soul,
I feel you breathing, that makes me whole.
I hear the rain falling, and the sun on my face,
I feel the shadows of darkness as me you embrace,
I feel happiness and laughter tears and sorrow,
But without you my love there would be no tomorrow.
I feel thunder and lightning, whenever you're near,
I feel whispers of love wind brings to my ear,
But of all of the things that nature may bring,
It's your love I cherish above.

Selections from Still I Rise
Maya Angelous
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Old Enough?
When a person old enough to be responsible for a crime? This question needs to
be investigated because the current law is not good enough.
The law at present protects children aged between ten years and four years
from being punished for committing crimes. It is believed that children under fourteen
years are too young to realize the seriousness of their crimes. Mr. Stephen Scarlett,
head of the NSW Children’s Court, describes how clever young offenders use this
defense, saying that they are too young to understand that they have broken the law.
Mr. Scarlett, an expert on this subject, states that the age should be dropped from
fourteen to twelve years. I agree with this.
Teenagers these days are far more sophisticated than those in the past. The law
should recognize this. In a recent survey some people suggested that the age for being
responsible for a crime should be dropped to eight years old. This, I feel, is too young.
Fourteen, however, is too old. Is there anyone who believes that a fourteen-year-old
does not know that it is against the law to steal or vandalize property? By the age of
twelve, children are aware of what is legal and what is not.
Public pressure creates change. It is now up to the public to put pressure on the
government to change the age at which a person may be held responsible for a crime
from fourteen years to twelve years. Out of date laws have no place in a modern
society, especially one that needs people to be responsible for their actions.
