Production of GAs

 The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab
Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman. Between 2009 and 2019, marketed gas
production by GCC members grew at an average rate of 4.8% per year.
 2019, Qatar had the largest production of natural gas among the GCC member states,
producing about 176 billion cubic meters per year.
 The largest gas producing countries in the Middle East are: Iran, Qatar, The UAE.
 The UAE held an estimated 290 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of proved natural gas reserves
at the beginning of 2023, up from 273 Tcf in the previous year. The UAE produces
3,178,738.47 million cubic feet (MMcf) of natural gas per year, ranking 10th in the
world.
 The Middle East is home to some of the world's biggest natural gas fields. The South
Pars/North Dome field, located in the Persian Gulf, is the world's largest natural gas
field, co-owned by Iran and Qatar.

 Qatar is the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

 In 2022, Qatar produced about 178.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
 Qatar's gas reserves are the third-largest in the world, behind Russia and Iran.
 Qatar's gas reserves account for 12.5% of the world's total natural gas reserves.
 Qatar is also the world's sixth-largest dry natural gas producer. In 2022, Iran had the
highest natural gas production, followed by Qatar and the UAE.
 The largest producers of natural gas in Qatar are: Qatar Energy, Exxon Mobil, Shell
 The world's largest natural gas field is the South Pars/North Dome field, which is
located in the Persian Gulf.
 The field is co-owned by Iran and Qatar.
 It contains an estimated 1.8 quadrillion cubic feet (51 trillion cubic meters) of natural
gas and 50 billion barrels (7.9 billion cubic meters) of natural gas condensates. The
field produces about 60 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
 Other major gas fields in the region include: North Pars, Kish, Golshan.
 The largest unconventional natural gas field in Saudi Arabia is Jafurah. It contains an
estimated 200 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas. The production from Jafurah can
be used as feedstock for petrochemical and metallic industries
Gas in Middle east
 The Middle East has the largest proven natural gas reserves in the world.
 In 2018, the Middle East accounted for 38.4% of the world's total proven natural gas
reserves.
 In 2020, the Middle East accounted for more than 40% of all natural gas reserves.
 However, the Middle East only generates 9.3% of the world's natural gas production.

The largest gas producing countries in the Middle East are:

 Iran: 256.7 billion cubic meters
 Qatar: Over 177 billion cubic meters
 Saudi Arabia: 117.3 billion cubic meters
The total natural gas production of the Middle East decreased by 0.11% in 2022
compared to 2021. Annual gas production is forecasted to decrease by a CAGR
of 1.5% through to 2030.

Country wise Gas fields:

Kuwait

1. Burgan Field: The Burgan Field is the largest oil field in Kuwait, but it also contains
substantial natural gas reserves. It is located in the southeastern part of the country and is one
of the world's largest oil and gas fields. While oil production is the primary focus, the
associated natural gas is also crucial for Kuwait's energy needs.

2. Sabriya Field: The Sabriya Field is another important gas field in Kuwait. It is primarily a
gas field and is located in the northern part of the country, near the border with Iraq. It
contains significant reserves of non-associated natural gas.

3. Raudhatain Field: The Raudhatain Field is an oil field located in the northern part of
Kuwait. It also contains associated natural gas reserves, which are extracted alongside the oil.

Qatar is renowned for its vast natural gas reserves and is a major player in the global natural
gas industry. The country's natural gas fields are essential sources of this valuable energy
resource. The primary natural gas field in Qatar is the North Dome Field, which is shared
with Iran's South Pars Field. The Qatari side of this field is known as the North Dome.
1. Size: The North Dome Field is one of the world's largest natural gas fields, covering an
extensive area beneath the Persian Gulf.

2. Reserves: It contains enormous reserves of natural gas, primarily methane (CH4), along
with some natural gas liquids (NGLs) like ethane, propane, and butane. The size of these
reserves is estimated to be one of the largest in the world.

3. Shared Resource: The North Dome Field is a shared resource with Iran, where the Iranian
portion is called the South Pars Field. The geological structure extends across the maritime
boundary between Qatar and Iran.

4. LNG Production: Natural gas extracted from the North Dome Field is processed into
liquefied natural gas (LNG) at various liquefaction plants in Qatar. The country has become
one of the world's leading exporters of LNG, and these exports play a pivotal role in its
economy.

5. Development: Qatar has invested heavily in the development of the North Dome Field,
with ongoing projects aimed at increasing production and enhancing recovery techniques.

6. Economic Impact: The revenue generated from the North Dome Field and LNG exports
has had a profound impact on Qatar's economy, allowing the country to invest in various
sectors and develop a high standard of living.

7. LNG Facilities: Qatar has several LNG facilities, including the Ras Laffan Industrial City,
where LNG is produced and exported to global markets. Ras Laffan is one of the world's
largest LNG production and export centers.

The North Dome Field is a crucial component of Qatar's natural gas production and export
capabilities. It has positioned Qatar as a dominant player in the global LNG market and has
driven significant economic growth in the country. The responsible management and
development of this field continue to be a key focus for Qatar's energy sector.

United Arab Emirates (UAE)

1. LNG Import: The UAE imports liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet its growing domestic
energy demand. While it does not have as extensive natural gas reserves as some of its
neighbors, the country has invested in LNG import infrastructure to ensure a stable supply of
natural gas.
2. Umm Shaif Gas Field: Located offshore in the Persian Gulf, the Umm Shaif Gas Field is
one of the UAE's significant offshore gas fields. It is part of a larger complex that includes
the Umm Shaif oil field.

3. Zakum Gas Field: The Zakum Gas Field is another offshore gas field in the UAE, located
in the Persian Gulf. It is part of the Upper Zakum oil field complex.

4. Ghasha Concession: The Ghasha Concession, located in the shallow waters of the Persian
Gulf, includes several offshore gas fields and oil fields. It is one of the largest offshore
concession areas in the UAE.

5. Bab Gas Field: The Bab Gas Field, located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, is one of the
UAE's major onshore gas fields. It has associated condensate production as well.

6. Satah Al Razboot (SARB) Gas Field: The SARB Gas Field is located in the shallow
waters of the Persian Gulf and is operated in conjunction with the Umm Al-Dalkh and Umm
Al-Quwain oil fields.

7. Dolphin Gas Project: The Dolphin Gas Project is a regional initiative that involves the
extraction, processing, and transportation of natural gas from Qatar to the UAE. It plays a
vital role in meeting the UAE's growing natural gas demand.

The UAE has increasingly invested in the development and expansion of its natural gas
infrastructure, both through exploration and international partnerships.
