Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this module, students are expected to:
C4. Use pneumatic and/or electro-pneumatic hardware and software to develop
complex mechatronic circuitry.
C5. Conduct simulations, analyze system output and formulate conclusions using
pneumatic and/or electro-pneumatic core theories and principles.
C7. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
C8. Lead multiple groups and projects with decision making responsibilities.
Specifically,
Sequential Motion Control in electropneumatics
Practical Application
Direction: (a) Design the positional sketch of the given system specification (5pts) (c)
Design the equivalent electro-pneumatic circuit based on the given specifications
(10pts).
Problem 1:
ABC Company asks you to design an electro-pneumatic pick and place module using
an electric motor and a double-acting cylinder. The workpiece located in position B will
be lifted using a vacuum. After lifting the workpiece, the motor must go back to its initial
position where the motor should be at position A. The cycle should be repeated for 3
times. Lastly, to ensure that the workpiece is securely held by the vacuum, a timer must
be implemented before the lifting cylinder retracts.
Problem 2:
ABC Company asks you to design an electro-pneumatic module that can fill a container
with water by opening a silo (extending cylinder A). The filling level will be monitored by
a capacitive sensor. Once the filling level is reached, a lamp will be turned on. The silo
will close after 5seconds. This cycle must be repeated 3times.
