MFPP Ethical Policy
MFPP Ethical Policy
1 Introduction
This policy sets out the standards of conduct that are expected from all MFPP
representatives: that is, Trustees, staff, advocates and partners.
This policy takes into account the Seven Principles of Public Life (Nolan Committe,
March 1996). In addition, this document is supplemented by MFPP Conflict of
Interest policy, staff handbook, staff Behaviours policy and MFPP Ethical Framework
(Policy and Guidance on Engagement with Other Parties).
2 Ethical Principles
2.1 MFPP was founded as a local organisation on the premise of public service. In
addition to our core purpose, which is to protect and develop the park as a haven of
wellbeing for our urban community, we also have a duty to the public to be
transparent and accountable, and always to act in the public interest. Our ability to
maintain a strong relationship of trust with our public is critical to our ability to fulfil our
purpose.
2.2 MFPP recognises that it is not possible to predict every situation in which its
representatives may find themselves. Of paramount importance are these simple
Principles: (DRAWN UP BY PARTICIPANTS ON THE FUTURE CONNECTED
COURSE)
Integrity
Excellence
We invest in people.
Teamwork
We respect and acknowledge each other’s strengths and ensure best use of
individual skills
Accountability
We are realistic and honest about our capacity and what we can achieve.
2.3 Where conflicts of interest arise - actual, potential or perceived - the duty of loyalty
must not be compromised. MFPP expects all representatives to:
a. Conduct themselves in accordance with all applicable national and international laws
b. Act with honest and integrity, and never knowingly mislead anyone
c. Protect confidential information obtained during their work
d. Be impartial, for example to i) declare any personal interests ii) not give or receive
any inducements which could conflict with the interests of the park
e. Apply the ethical standards governing their profession
3 Procedures
3.1 All MFPP trustees and staff must make known any actual, potential or perceived
conflict between their own and MFPP interests
3.3 All staff and trustees must understand their responsibilities to uphold public trust,
follow appropriate policies and procedures as set out in the Employee Handbook and
declare any actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest as outlined in section
3.1 above.
