Author Guidelines

The Academy (Education Magazine) is an academic publication space in which the Ucompensar community
can express its voice in the face of the different experiences that are part of the teaching profession. This project
creates a virtual space where teachers and students can participate by writing about their own experiences in the
classroom and how this process can build a more reflective community. With the support of the Faculty of
Social Sciences and Education at Ucompensar, we propose this magazine as a creative space for pre-service and
in-service teachers to discuss how they perceive and feel education in their lives. In volume 4, issue 1 of the
magazine, the Ucompensar community may write about any educational or literary issue by expressing their
perspectives.

Authors can participate in the following sections:

Academic essays

Any essay that covers the main topics of the magazine, education, or literature will fulfill the requirement.
Authors should call the reader's attention by bridging the gap between theory and experience. The essay should
have between 1500 and 5000 words. In addition, it must have an attractive title, an introductory paragraph with
a hook and a thesis statement, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.

Educational/Literary op-ed or column

Select a topic that calls the reader’s attention from the education perspective and express a clear, unique, and
strong opinion or point of view. Please, write a short text with a catchy title where the authors express their
thoughts argumentatively. It should be between 750 and 800 words in length.

Reflective teaching practice paper

Educators face many different situations as part of their teaching profession, and most of the time, they do not
reflect upon them. Write a text about a specific situation that the pre-service teachers face during the teaching
practice or job and how they can propose it as a reflection to help others understand this great profession. The
paper must include an attractive title, the event description, feelings explanation at the time, the evaluation and
analysis of the experience, and an action plan from the event. Write a text between 750 and 1000 words.
Teacher-made original materials

There are different ways in which teachers can call students’ attention and motivate them to learn; materials are
some of these strategies teachers use to boost students’ learning. Write an explanation of how to use the
materials that impact students’ development and attach the materials in an accessible link in Onedrive. The
material explanation must have a title, the objective, population, language level, time, and instructions on using
it. Materials also cover motivating lesson plans and engaging classroom projects. If the material contains any
digital image, ensure it has good resolution and is not pixeled.

Poems

They must be at most 1000 words and are open to any topic. Poems can vary from traditional forms to free
verse; authors can write any of these (check this link on the forms: https://writers.com/what-is-form-in-poetry).

Short stories

They must catch the reader’s attention from the beginning until the end, can cover any topic, and must be
between 1000 to 4000 words. Here authors have additional suggestions for writing a short story:
