ASSIGNMENT 1

HISTORY HONOURS (AECC)

DIARY ENTRY

27 december 2021

Dear diary

Today is a day that I will never forget in my life. I recently joined an NGO that
had an old age home and an orphanage attached to it. as a volunteer and
personally speaking, it has been such an enriching and eye opining experience
for me. We had taken some food and old cloths with us to give them. I cannot
forget the happiness in the eyes of both the elder people and children when
we gave them the food packets and clothes. We even fed the children and
played with them. I was in touch with an amazing team of people who were so
amazing and full of life and zest about the work they do. They inspired me to
puch my limits. They taught me to think about society first and myself later.
There were times when success got into my head and I become a little
demanding, but I later understood that things don’t work out unless you are
cool headed and humble. In a way volunteering has not only taught me about
the various challenges in the society but it also helping me improve myself as a
person. I also learned so much about the first-hand experience of multitudes of
people mainly women and I was amazed by their courage, persistence and the
love that they personified through their work. It made me open my eyes
toward a better world which we can create if we all join hands together and it
made me realized how privileged I am to stand on a better platform and to be
in a position to help them out in whatever way possible. Though I was
apprehensive first-hand about joining an NGO, this experience certainly proved
all my doubt wrong. I found a lot of happiness doing my bit for the society. The
joy that I get when I meet young kids and old people in orphanage is soul
touching. I have understood that relationships are not always made through
blood. My heart is so full with all the love I’ve encountered and experienced
today and it was simply amazing to go to out there and see the world, an
entire world which is so different from mine and make a difference in their
lives in whatever small way I can. I also had the best time of my life running
around here with the kids and there and having important discussion with the
most amazing team. Making someone else happy, or bringing more knowledge
and learning to someone else’s life, can be an experience worth cherishing.
They’ve taught me so much about the world and I feel that we have the
privilege of lot of things to learn from the underprivileged. I also learned about
research work which I seldom had a chance to and it was so exciting looking at
graphs, reports and doing field studies which was so enjoyable it got me
questioning myself why I didn’t do this earlier. They had tears in their eyes
when we bid them goodbye in the evening. I too found it very hard to fight
back my tears.it made me realize how lucky and fortunate I was to have
everything and loving people around me.

Love always
Sajal
