INT. SPOTLESS APARTMENT - KITCHEN - DAY

Chris washes dishes, as the front door OPENS. Joan walks to the
closet in the hallway.

CHRIS
Oh hey--I found where that music
box is.

JOAN
You did?

CHRIS
Yeah--it’s on the doo-dad out in
the living room.

JOAN
The coffee table?

CHRIS
The lower shelf--yeah.

JOAN
I looked there yesterday, and it
wasn’t there. Where did you really
find it?

CHRIS
Okay--alright. I was playing around
with it, and I left it outside. I
was afraid it would get damage, so
I was worried to tell you.

JOAN
You left it outside...?

Chris hesitates.

JOAN (CONT'D)

felt bad about my irresponsivity.

JOAN
Or... you sold it to buy drugs,
because you felt like you couldn’t

bought the music box back today
because you don’t want to get

CHRIS
Listen to you--your consumptions!
How prideful can you get!

JOAN
Am I right?
Chris hesitates.

CHRIS
I’m not doing blow... I don’t have
addictions anymore.
Joan shakes her head in disbelief.

JOAN
This is exactly what happened 3
years ago.

Chris looks at her; anxious. Joan avoids eye contact;

overwhelmed.
A long stalemate. Finally:

CHRIS
This is such a filasco...

EXT. SPOTLESS APARTMENT - DAY

Chris turns to look over his shoulder at Joan, as he walks

away.

CHRIS (V.O.)
We’re gonna be okay now, alright?

Joan stands in the doorway, arms folded across each other.

CHRIS (V.O.)
I’ll pay you back for everything I
owe you... and then after awhile,
we’ll go see Dad, right?
JOAN (V.O.)
If at some point, you’re ready...
then we’ll see him.

CHRIS (V.O.)
I can change. You’ll see me
change...
