Nature of the
University
 Cavite State University is a public
non-sectarian institution of higher
learning principally supported by
state funds. It includes pre-
school, elementary and
secondary levels as laboratory
schools for its teacher education
program.
Brief History of the
University
 The University has its humble
beginnings in 1906 as the Indang
Intermediate School with the
American Thomasites as the first
teachers.
 Indang Farm School in 1918
 Indang Rural High School in 1927
 Don Severino National Agriculture
School in 1958
 1964, the school was converted
into a State College by virtue of
Republic Act 3917 and became
known as Don Severino
Agricultural College (DSAC)
 On January 22, 1998, by virtue of
Republic Act No.8468, DSAC was
converted into Cavite State
University
 In 2001, Cavite College of Fisheries
(CACOF) in Naic, Cavite and Cavite
College of Arts and Trade (CCAT)
in Rosario, Cavite, were integrated
to the University by virtue of CHED
Memo No. 27 s. 2000.
 Since then, additional campuses in
the province were established
through memoranda of
agreement with the LGUs. At
the province. These are the
Rosario, Naic, Cavite, Carmona
(2001); Imus (2003), Trece
Martirez (2005), Silang (2006),
Tanza (2007), Bacoor (2008), Gen,
Trias and Maragondon campuses.
The main campus is approximately
70 hectares in land area and
named as Don Severino delas Alas
Campus, is in Indang, Cavite.

The University Colors
Cavite State University shall adopt Green
and Gold as its official colors.
 The shape of the seal shall be a
square with one-third of one of its
angles cut to form its base. It shall
assume the shape of a space
capsule. The dominant colors of
the University seal are Green and
Gold.
 The words “Cavite State
University”, “Cavite”,
“Philippines”, “1906” are written
in gold against a dark green
background around the periphery
of the seal.
 The CvSU seal is composed of four
important interactive elements
that represent the vision, thrusts,
and the programs of the
University:
 The book with torch at the center
of the seal symbolizes knowledge
and wisdom. It also represents
education, the humanities and
other social science programs of
the University.
 The coffee twig with ripe berries
at the right hand side of the book
with torch symbolizes the major
agricultural thrusts of the Province
of Cavite. It also represents the
agriculture and related programs
of the University.
 The gear at the bottom of the
book with torch symbolizes
engineering and technology
programs of the University while
the atomic structure at the left
hand side of the book with torch
represents the science programs,
and more importantly, the
scientific research undertakings of
the University
 The flame of the torch is designed
as “CvSU” which is the adopted
acronym of the Cavite State
University. The flame symbolizes
the enduring and everlasting
flame that will guide the
University in its search for truth.
 The figure 1906 placed below was
the year CvSU had its humble
beginnings as an intermediate
school established in Indang,
Cavite.
 The background for all elements is
light green.
 The trilogy of functions of the
University, which are instruction,
research and extension, are
symbolized by the over-all
triangular shape of the seal.
Seal and colors of
colleges and branch
campuses
 Colleges in the main campus and
branch campuses may adopt their
respective seals and colors
recommended by the
Administrative Council and
approved by the Board. The seal
configuration however, shall not
deviate from the overall
configuration of the University
Seal which is a square with one of
its angles cut to form the base.
“Laya at Diwa” - CvSU Historical
Landamark
This brass artwork carries the
University’s ideals of TRUTH,
EXCELLENCE and SERVICE. There
are five basic elements in the
artwork together with the
symbolic figures and meanings.
The unchained female figure,
holding a book, represents the
empowered Filipina woman. She is
beauty personified and today’s
contemporary woman – a mother,
a nurturer, an educator, and a
humble servant to humanity.
The male figure with pen and
torch represents the dignified
Filipino father – strong,
prominent, dignified and excellent
in hi field of endeavor besides
being portrayed as persistent
searcher of truth. The flame of the
torch carries the letters CvSU for
Cavite State University – serving as
the guiding light of his noble
quest. The interlocked arms of the
man and the woman signifies
unity of purpose and directions.
The child figure, in dynamic pose
standing on top of the pillar and
reaching out a dove, represents
the youth in general and
recognized as the proverbial hope
of the future that needs molding
and nurturing. The dove
symbolizes peace and freedom.
The central pillar symbolizes
growth and development. It
represents Filipino’s common
aspiration for an improved quality
of life – a kind of life with equity,
peace, justice and harmony. The
pillar is ever growing, directed
higher but always deeply rooted in
history as depicted by the murals
on the sides of the base.
The murals show the important
historical events that took place in
the province of Cavite and
throughout the Philippines and
portray events showing Filipino’s
life and spirit under imperial Spain
and other colonizers including
their continuing struggle for
freedom and independence.
The entire artwork is mounted on
a CvSU logo - shaped base to
served as a fitting reminder to the
entire CvSU community of its great
responsibility to remain faithful to
the University’s vision and mission
and to hold sacred its tenets of
TRUTH, EXCELLENCE and SERVICE
“Laya at Diwa” is a creation of the
Castrillos of Imus, Cavite, led and
supervised by Jonnel P. Castrillo.
This also reflects the vision and
determination of Dr. Ruperto S.
Sangalang, the CvSU President at
that time, to transform the
University into a truly global
university. It was inaugurated on
December 15, 2006 br Ho. Senator
Edgardo J. Angara, on the occasion
of the University’s centenary
celebration.
