MASSLOW HEIRARCHY OF NEEDS

Psychology: Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. Psychology is all about how
assessing human behavior, mind process and brain functions.

Needs: Needs are the most basic requirements present in a human instinct. Needs are the most
primary instinct and it further covers the stages of wants and desires.

How motivation is linked to Needs?

Motivation is an internal state of human nature giving directions to our thoughts our needs are
also generated and directed by motivation to fulfill them. When one primary need is fulfilled
individuals switch towards more secondary and tertiary needs.

Maslow Needs of Hierarchy:-

Maslow presented the Hierarchy of needs theory presenting his


five staged pyramid structure in which an individual evolves from his basic bodily needs to the
intellect. Each need is true reflection of human instinct. The five needs which are required by
human beings are as follows

 Physiological Needs
 Security Needs
 Social Needs
 Self-Esteem
 Self-Actualization
Each

need when fulfilled to an extent provokes the sense of fulfillment of other. This is how
eventually an individual progresses from physiological needs to Self-Actualization
PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS: These are the most basic and primary biological needs which are
essential for human survival.

For Example: Physiological needs involve

 Food
 Water
 Shelter
 Warmth etc.

These needs are seek by each and every organism present in this world.

Without physiological needs fulfilment people will no longer be able to sustain their life and if
not fulfilled they may lead a person to various disorders and even death.

SECURITY NEEDS:
Security needs are essential for survival as one enjoys his life if he has a
sense of security in his environment and surrounding. It is the right of every individual to be
secured Physically, Financially and Emotionally.

Example One needs security from criminal mindset

 job security
 shelter
 improved law and order situations,
 Health security or it might also be stability within a territory.

Without the security needs people won’t be able to conduct their daily life chores and won’t be
able to operate their business, investments and jobs.

SOCIAL NEEDS:
Social needs are of core importance as an individual attains primary needs he
gets motivated to fulfill social needs. As we know that man is a social animal it is difficult for
him to survive without assistance of other humans this is how the cycle of needs revolve. Every

person is the need of other.

Example: Social needs include

 Getting love
 Affection
 ,parenthood
 relations with parents friendship
 Trust and acceptability.

It is essential for a person to live in a society and to be a part of it so social needs are worthy.

SELF-ESTEEM:
Self-esteem is all about having a positive perception about our own self. It is
the degree to extent that how much we value our abilities and are confident about it. A person
with high self-esteem tends to know that his opinion is much worthy to him.

Example:

 Portraying your experience openly


 being confident
 feeling yourself useful
 Being confident with our capabilities

Self-esteem in positivity leads to competence, independence and freedom needs.

SELF-ACTUALIZATION:

Self-actualization is the prime need in an individual in which he has


a complete command upon his abilities, his intellect is a leading one and the personality of a self-
actualized person is enriched in maturity, calmness and positivity towards life.
Example:

 spontaneous behavior ability to solve problems


 being creative
 self-loving

The need to satisfy self-actualization is that an individual is able to find his purpose of life that
what he was created for and how his goals are defined.
