Translated by Dr. Ganesh Mohan

Chapter V: Verses 75-77

atha bhastrikākumbhakaḥ |
bhastravai lohakārāṇāṁ yathākrameṇa saṁbhramet |
tathā vāyuṁ ca nāsābhyāmubhābhyāṁ cālayecchanaiḥ ||75||

Now bhastrikā kumbhaka [is explained]:

V.75: Like the bellows of the blacksmith function (expand and contract forcefully), move the air [in
and out] similarly, through both nostrils, slowly.

evaṁ viṁśativāraṁ ca kṛtvā kuryācca kumbhakam |
tadante cālayedvāyuṁ pūrvoktaṁ ca yathāvidhi ||76||

V.76: Having practiced this kumbhaka (prāṇayāma) twenty times, end by breathing out the air in the
way explained earlier.

trivāraṁ sādhayedenaṁ bhastrikākumbhakaṁ sudhīḥ |
na ca rogo na ca kleśa ārogyaṁ ca dine dine ||77||

V.77: The intelligent yogi should practice this bhastrikā kumbhaka thrice. [Such a yogi is] free from
disease and suffering, and is healthy every day.
