1 Work in pairs to roleplay a dialogue.
Student A, you are feeling ill and made an
appointment to see a doctor.
Student B, you are a doctor.
Look at these prompt cards and use them to ask
and answer questions.
Hand out roleplay cards for students to read.
You have one minute to read the prompt cards
and think about what you want to say. Please ask
me if you have any questions.
Allow 1 minute for students to read roleplay cards.
Answer questions as required.
You can begin the roleplay now.
(Allow 2 minutes for students to roleplay the
situation. If both students are weak and struggle to
start the roleplay, use questions to prompt them e.g.
How can you introduce yourself? How can you find
out what’s the matter? etc.)

2 A new student started in your class at school
this week. She wants to know the best places
for young people to go in your town and the
best things for them to do there.
Look at the photos and:
 discuss together which places are good for
young people to go in your town;
 decide together which place would be best
for making new friends, and explain why.
You have one minute to think about what you
want to say. Please ask me if you have any
questions.
Allow 1 minute for students to look at photos and
prepare. Answer questions as required.
Please start your discussion now.
Allow 3 minutes for student to do the task, moving
the discussion on to the second bullet point if
necessary and/or prompting both students by
recasting/modifying the bullets above.

discuss these questions together, but target
individual students who do not contribute or
contribute minimally to the discussion tasks above if
necessary):
1 Where do you go to hang out with your
