Chrome extension Text Selectio

Allows you to select a text passage in a browser and then immediately store it
in a .csv- le.

The date and time of retrieval, the URL as well as the html code are
automatically stored along with the selected text

--> Avoid a small bug after installation:

After installing the tool, any open website from which you would like to copy text
may have to be reloaded. This only needs to be done right after installation for
websites which have been open from before the installation

This is how you use the text collection tool:

1. Select a text and press cmd+c+c on MacOS, or ctrl-copy+copy on Windows, twice to

display a menu. That is: you press „c“/„copy“ twice in rapid succession
2. You can add a tag to the data.
3. Press Submit to save the selected text snippet

You can see in these screenshot that the menu may blend into the website. This may
make it sometimes harder to nd the pop up menu.

4. When you're done, you can press the Extension button to download your selected data.
It will be saved in your Download folder (or the default place for downloading). You may
need to press it multiple times

 5. You can also delete or edit your data manually in the table that you have downloaded by
clicking „Clear“. Downloading the data will not delete the data! New data will be added and
the number of elements will increase

6. You will be able to download a so-called csv le which you can view in LibreOf ce
(Windows) or Numbers (Mac) other spreadsheet applications. Excel leads to a broken
display of the data and is not recommended. Do not store les that have been converted
by Excel

7. Deal with a small bug: When you download you may get the noti cation: Failed network
error. In this case keep trying to download. this will go away eventually and the data will be
downloaded. Your data will not be lost. It's a small bug in the software which causes this
and we hope to x soon

8. The Text Selection tool will not work on PDF documents. There are also some regular
html websites where this tool will not work, however, these are rare. You will notice this if
the Text Selection window will not open upon clicking CTRL+c+c.
