The “Dead Stars” by Paz Marquez Benitez is a short story that she wrote in 1925 about a man who

loves a
woman while being engaged. The story revolves around cheating, love, and betrayal of someone’s love. It's
a beautiful story full of mixed emotions. It represents our culture before, but in the present there’s a small
population doing that.

The more you continue to read the story and flip the pages, you will question yourself: how, why, and
what is the reason why Esperanza did not get jealous when Alfredo was going out with Julia? Is it because
Esperanza is an independent person, but if she is, why does she need to get married? From the very
beginning of the story, it makes me confused because why is a man in his early 30’s with a law degree not
married? When reading the text, when I get to the exciting part, it makes me smile since if you get excited,
you are full of joy about what will happen next. The one thing that I observed is why we call a short story,
but it has a long script or duration if you convert it to a video. I'm not taking side of neither of the main
characters, for all of them did wrong. Alfredo is engaged with Esperanza, but he still managed to like
another woman. It only shows the infidelity of a man.

Ultimately, all of my opinions about the story of “Dead Stars” are now compiled. It is now an eye-opener to
me after I read the story. The negative and positive effects of the text on the readers, as I’m a reader
myself, are now able to be shared with the author. And the joy it brings to us readers to read such a great
story.
