What is emotion?
● Emotions are often confused with feelings and moods, but the three
terms are not interchangeable.
● A complex reaction pattern, involving experiential, behavioral, and
physiological elements.
● Emotional experiences have three components: a subjective experience,
a physiological response, and a behavioral or expressive response.
When reliving events that elicited happiness, pride, and love, European
Americans smiled more frequently and more intensely than did their
Hmong counterparts—though all participants reported feeling happy,
proud, and in love at similar levels of intensity. And similar patterns have
emerged in studies comparing European Americans with Chinese
Americans during different emotion-eliciting tasks
