ROLE OF EDUCATION IN SKILL DEVELOPMENT

The more we give importance to skill development, the more competent will be our
youth (stated by Narendra Modi) which means conceptual education and skills are
correspondingly important for students which open manifold ways for their future
growth. Developing the right skills can enhance employability and living standards of
people in our country which will ultimately increase production of resources.
Twenty-first century includes critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity promoting
metacognitive regulation.

In India, skill-based education is considered to be vocational that is acquired through

crash courses or accelerated training. Nowadays, competitiveness has been the
hallmark in every collaborative endeavour and at the very least, each company seeks for
cutthroat competition. Education is the foundation of skills development. Both skills and
education must synchronise in someone’s life. When students learn a topic in depth and
understand the concepts, they get deep knowledge of that topic which ultimately leads
to skill development. Skill development programs uplift students to think, focus and
evaluate on what they are learning. Students need to work hard and focus on learning
beyond their formal education as skill development is unavoidable for enhancing
creativity skills which is beneficial for development of the country. Developing skills via
education means developing the country which means if we expertise ourselves then we
will have more production of resources which will eventually result in the development
of our country. Schooling doesn’t guarantee employment but skills do.

The government of India has also introduced new policies and various initiatives to
encourage students in amplifying their proficiency along with formal education.
Skill-based education helps students to analyse their learning and lessen the
comprehension gap. They get chances of self-appraisal which is more cardinal than
degrees to prove their advanced level. Skill development helps individuals create a firm
educational foundation which increases self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness. Our
country’s economic growth is completely dependent on skill development. If our skills
are developed then economic growth will eventually increase which will be really
profitable for our country. People can earn more money when they have proper skills
and technology. By memorising the facts we will get jobs but it will not sharpen our
mind unless we have the skills. Let’s take an example: If a fellow is preparing for NEET
and he/she isn’t able to crack the NEET exam so he/she will have to prepare for it
again which will take years and years. Basically, if he/she has skills to do any sort of job
or work, he/she will be able to earn money for himself/herself and it will increase the
employment rate as well in our country. Formal education and skills are equally essential
for a bright future. We cannot build a high-minded society or a developed nation
without education and skills. We can become self-reliant through education and after
that, we won’t depend on our parents for money. Today the importance of education and
skills is as much as having water to live life. Skill development is essential in education
because it builds students for the workforce, enhances their social and emotional life,
and helps them become more well-rounded individuals.

Education, vocational training and skill development are central pillars of employability.
Skill India launched in 2015 by the Prime Minister of India is an initiative to improve
the lives of people and enhance physical and mental development. Its main motive is to
enhance the skills of students. For proper execution, skill development is an important
aspect because education cannot solve all the problems faced by the country. It
required skills and profound knowledge. Earlier people used to follow orders of others
because they did not have proper access to education and development but now, people
are making independent decisions. Technology is one of the most important parts of
skill development. In the 21st century, people are relying on technology for better
development in our country and it has developed our country a lot.

To sum up, Education and skill development is the focal point designed to address a
balance of three areas –knowledge, attitude and skills. Schools need to expertise their
students by developing their skills by explaining the in-depth of theories and concepts.
