Brief Case Study 1

Brief Case 1 (Technical Training)

1) The first mistake made by the company's training officer was that he sent the company's
employees to the wrong machine operation course. It is because the employee claims that the
machine used in the company is from a different manufacturer than the machine used in the
machine operation course attended by the employee. The second mistake was that the
company's training officer had also called the machine manufacturer's representative on the
day the employee took annual leave. Based on the two errors, we can see that for the first
error, the training officer did not ensure that the machine operation course was suitable for
the company's employees. As for the second mistake, the training officer did not take into
account the presence of the employee when he called the representative of the machine
manufacturer to teach the employee how to use the new machine. Therefore, the result is that
the company's employees have difficulty operating the machine for the company's daily
production use.

2) For me, writing a letter to the manufacturer of the machine is an unnecessary action. It is
because the manufacturer's representative has already attended the company to give training.
Although the worker was not there at the time, the manufacturer's representative had taught
the worker's boss. Therefore, for me the most appropriate action to do now is to ask the
employee's boss to teach the employee who has difficulty to operate the machine. It is
because, the employee's boss already has the knowledge to operate the machine and he also
has responsibility for the employee. That way, the company doesn't have to make provisions
to call the machine manufacturer's representative or have to send the employee to a proper
machine operation course which costs a lot of capital.

3) In my opinion, the company's training officer has the primary responsibility for handling
training and development. It is because the training officer is responsible for planning
training for all employees in the company. If the training officer does not care about the
ability of the company's employees in performing tasks, then the company will experience
losses and incur more liabilities because of having employees who do not have the skills to
perform tasks for daily production operations. Therefore, we can see how much responsibility
the training officer has to shoulder to ensure the survival of the company.
Brief Case 2 (The Simple Job)

1) In my opinion, Chin Heng has a sense of gratitude in him because even though he is no
longer working in his original department. However, instead of being fired from the
company. It is better for Chin Heng to have other tasks in the company because his original
work has already been taken over by machine automation where the company no longer
needs his expertise in those tasks.

2) In my opinion, the incident that happened to Chin Heng was related to the training given
by his supervisor. It is because his supervisor only provided training regarding the operation
of the welding machine. Although handling is an important matter, his supervisor should
explain all the aspects that Chin Heng needs to know so that accidents can be avoided.
Therefore, the incident experienced by Chin Heng that caused injuries to himself was due to
his supervisor who only provided basic training and not full training to operate the welding
machine which is already a danger to the workers even though it is very easy to operate.
