explanatory sequential mixed methods research approach is considered appropriate for the
research. In addition, the chapter set the procedures to collect, analyze and report data.

According to Kerlinger (1986) "research design is the plan and structure of

investigation so conceived so as to obtain answers to research questions The plan is the
overall program of the research and includes an outline of what the investigator will do from
writing of the hypothesis and their operational implications for the final analysis of data
Cooper and Schindler (2003) summarizes the essentials of research design as an activity and
time based plan, always based on the research question, guides the selection of sources and
types of information, a framework for specifying the relationship among the study variables
and outlines the procedures for every research activity.

The researchers used descriptive research design in collecting the data from
respondents The design is preferred because it is concerned with answering questions such as
who, how, what which, when and how much (Cooper and schindler, 2003) A descriptive
study is carefully designed to ensure complete description of the situation, making sure that
there is minimum bias in the collection of data and to reduce errors in interpreting the data
collected.

The Tayabas Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TCMPC) is a well-established and

reputable cooperative in Tayabas, Quezon Province, Philippines. It was registered with the
Cooperative Development Authority in 1995 and has since grown to serve over 11,000 members
as of 2021. The cooperative’s primary objective is to provide financial, livelihood, and social
services to its members, particularly those who are underprivileged and economically
marginalized.

One of the strengths of TCMPC is its diversified services. The cooperative offers a wide
range of financial services such as savings and deposit products, loans, insurance, and investment
opportunities. It also provides livelihood and social services such as scholarship programs, health
care services, and disaster relief and rehabilitation. This diversification allows the cooperative to
cater to the varied needs of its members and support their economic and social well-being.

Another strength of TCMPC is its governance and management. The cooperative is led
by a competent and dedicated Board of Directors and managed by a professional and efficient
staff. It also has a sound financial management system, indicated by its consistently increasing
assets and net surplus over the years.

However, there are some areas in which TCMPC can improve. One is its transparency
and accountability in reporting to its members. Some members have expressed concerns about
the lack of timely and complete information about the cooperative’s financial performance and
operations. Although the cooperative regularly conducts General Assemblies and releases annual
reports, some members feel that more transparency and accountability are needed to foster
greater trust and confidence among the members.

In summary, Tayabas Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative is a well-established and

reputable cooperative that provides a wide range of diversified services to its members. Its
governance and management are strong, but there is room for improvement in transparency and
accountability. Overall, TCMPC is a valuable asset to the community it serves, promoting
economic and social development through cooperative principles and values.
