INTRODUCTION
Viettel Telecom is the largest telecommunications company in Vietnam today, they
also own many of the most advanced telecommunication’s technologies such as 5G mobile
network. Viettel Telecom aroused me a lot of inspiration and love for the brand, so I think I
will learn a lot if I apply for a Marketing internship here.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to experience 6 weeks of internship at
Viettel Telecom Corporation, this report will summarize how that process happened
through three chapters: Overview of Viettel Telecom, Internship Progress and Outcomes of
the internship.
In the first chapter: Overview of Viettel Telecom, under my observation and research about
the company, I have gathered my knowledge and understanding about Viettel Telecom
from history, mission, vision to organizational structure and working environment...
In the second chapter: Internship Progress, I will report in detail how my 6 weeks
internship went, what I learned and what tools I used to apply in my daily work. In this
chapter, I will talk about SlimEmail, a service application that provides email marketing
solutions for businesses. SlimEmail supports quite well for customer marketing as well as
helps marketers simplify the mass marketing process.
And in the last chapter: Outcomes of the internship, this is a short chapter to summarize my
experiences and feelings about Viettel Telecom.
Through this report, I believe that I have provided enough and transparent information
about my journey and practical experience at Viettel Telecom in the past 6 weeks. This was
an interesting experience and very valuable to me for my career future.

CHAPTER I: OVERVIEW OF VIETTEL TELECOM
I.1. Company information
Full name - In English: Viettel Telecom Corporation (under the Vietnam
Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel Group)).
- In Vietnamese: Tổng Công ty Viễn thông Viettel (trực thuộc Tập

I.2. Company’s historical activities


Viettel Telecom is a member of Viettel Military Industry and Telecommunications
Group, established on April 5, 2007, on the basis of merging Viettel Internet Companies,
Fixed Telephone Viettel and Viettel Mobile, providing telecommunications network
services currently holds the Number 1 market share in Vietnam and is the network operator
with the largest brand value in Southeast Asia. (Vnexpress, 2020)

 In 1989, the Electronic Information Equipment Company, the predecessor of the


Military Telecommunications Company (Viettel), was established;
 In 1995, the company changed its name to Military Electronics and
Telecommunications Company (trading name Viettel) and officially became his
second telecommunications service provider in Vietnam;

 In 2000, Viettel successfully launched under 178 brand names a license to provide
long-distance telephone service using his VoIP technology on the Hanoi-Ho Chi
Minh route;
 In 2003, Viettel started investing in basic telecommunication services, installed
switchboards and launched fixed telephone services. Viettel also implements
universalization of landlines in all regions of the country to improve service quality.
 On October 15, 2004, the 098 mobile network officially went into operation,
marking a turning point in the development of Viettel Mobile and Viettel;
 According to Decision 45/2005/BQP of the Ministry of National Defense of
Vietnam on March 2, 2005, the Military Telecommunications Company became a
Military Telecommunications Company by the decision of Prime Minister Phan
Van Khai on April 6, 2004.;
 On April 5, 2007, Viettel Telecommunications Company (Viettel Telecom) was
established under Viettel Military Telecommunications Corporation based on the
merger of Viettel Internet Companies, Viettel Fixed Phones and Mobile Phones.
Vittel. It is said that Viettel Telecom has important trademarks and occupies a
superior position in market and customer choice.
With 178 domestic and international calling services are available in 64/64 states and cities
nationwide and in most countries and territories around the world. Fixed telephone
services, Internet services, etc. are ubiquitous, with over 1.5 million subscribers across all
occupations and geographies in the country. With over 20 million mobile service
subscribers, Viettel Telecom has become the No. 1 mobile operator in Vietnam.

I.3. Missions
 With the mission of Creation for People, Viettel always considers each customer as
a person - a separate individual who needs to be respected, cared for and listened to,
understood and served separately. The foundation for a thriving business is social.

I.8. Department functions
There are plenty of department and center included in Viettel Telecom, all will be
under the management of the Board of Directors including: General Director - Cao Anh
Son and three Deputy General Directors - Nguyen Quang Lap, Phan Hoang Viet, Nguyen
Trong Tinh. General Director Cao Anh Son will have a higher power, which is to make
decisions for the company's expenses.
With a specialization in Marketing, I was assigned to do an internship at Branding and
Product Communication Department of Customer and Marketing Center.
Mission of Branding Product Communication Department:

 Consulting, proposing and assisting the Board of Directors in building and


developing relationships within the enterprise, building and developing
relationships between the enterprise and the public in order to introduce and
promote the company's brand. brands, products and services of the Enterprise;
 Advise, recommend and assist the Board of Directors in building and developing
the brand's products and services of the Group through product promotion channels
including: online, offline, events, programs cooperation program, trade promotion
& other promotional program policies.
Main functions:

 Advising the Board of Directors in the field of communication and marketing;


 Research, plan, organize and implement communication and marketing activities of
the Enterprise;
 Managing corporate image, brand and handling crisis communication;
 Consulting for affiliated companies on communication and marketing related
activities to ensure the correct implementation of regulations and direction of the
enterprise's general development strategy.
Permissions:

 To have the right to actively implement plans, plans, management and


administration measures in accordance with the organization and operation
regulations of the unit and the regulations of the Group;
 To actively deal with agencies, units and individuals to organize the implementation
of the above tasks of the Board;
 Have the right to request, propose and recommend the Group and related units to
provide information to perform the assigned tasks;

 Have the right to propose to the Board of Directors policies, measures, solutions,
plans... to effectively implement the tasks of the Board.

I.9. Working environment


Viettel Telecom is an enterprise that appreciates talented, passionate people who are
suitable for the company culture. Individuals will be facilitated by the company to develop
their full potential with passion and enthusiasm as well as always create conditions for its
employees to have the opportunity to challenge and "wake up" own values to grown up. To
maintain its position as the 3rd best working environment in Vietnam 2021
(thoibaotaichinhvietnam.vn, 2021), all members are well-trained, have the ability to solve
problems in all circumstances, understand the culture at Viettel, have a good working spirit,
and are consistent with Viettel's life values. Viettel takes people as the core factor for
strong development.
“Viettel continuously applies international standards on human resource
assessment and treatment in order to create the best development conditions for
employees. In addition, Viettel has implemented many additional welfare programs
to help officers and employees feel secure in their work, enhance financial security
and health for themselves and their families. Currently, 40% of Viettel's leaders and
managers are under the age of 35. Statistics show that 3% of young talented
employees recruited into Viettel become leaders and managers at the company level
and above.
In the year 2020, Viettel supported more than 13,000 employees whose work was
interrupted with an amount of nearly 23 billion VND and spent more than 2 billion

CHAPTER II: INTERNSHIP PROGRESS
2.1. Internship goals
 With each place I work with, I always set the main goal is to experience the
environment and culture at the place where I work, thereby accumulating more
knowledge and experience, serving the future would be very helpful.
 Besides the above goal, the relationships I will have will be the second most
important goal to mention. Creating my own network will also be extremely helpful
for my career.
 Finally, will be the right place for my major and the right place to study for this
internship.

2.3.1. SlimEmail
SlimEmail is a software that supports Email Marketing activities such as creating
new emails through drag and drop, sending mass emails to promote communication, taking
care of customers automatically...

Application of SlimEmail:

 Care and sales automation (marketing automation) - Integrate with landing page,
send emails automatically according to pre-written scripts.
 Sending old customer care emails - Send promotions, business newsletters, happy
birthday
 Send emails looking for new partners and customers - Send cooperation programs,
special offers for new customers

With the ability to automate and beautify emails, the Branding and Product
Communication department - where I practice, used and applied SlimEmail in some of their
campaigns to create good impressions with a large number of customers.
2.3.2. SlimEmail’s features

With SlimEmail, you can design email templates by dragging and dropping content
blocks such as text, images, Call to Action Buttons...

You can enter text as usual or use the built-in templates. The software's built-in
templates include:
o Add company logo
o Main title and intro
o Plain Texts
o Banner image: Full screen email design
o Blue or red Call to Action button
o Horizontal line: To separate the email clearly
o Accompanying Blog Post: Title with article link
o Signature with avatar: Include name, image and title
o Image and accompanying title: Horizontal
o The image and title above are placed on 2 columns.

After completing an email template, you can save it for next use or edit some
information that can be used again.

If you don't want to design your own, you can use SlimEmail's available email
templates. The software currently has 6 templates available for the following
content:

o Free materials for customers.


o Update new articles on the blog of the business.
o Invite to the upcoming event.
o New product launch - introduce new products to customers.
o Thank you note.
o Offer discount codes and promotions.

Choose an email template according to your needs and edit the details inside into
company information, brand images, etc. to complete.

 Create new emails with drag and drop

Mail Builder is an email design tool with available color blocks of SlimEmail. You
go here to get started in the design interface or at the email design section when
creating a new campaign.
The tool has content blocks available to the selector such as:

o Main banner: Contains an overview of the email and the Call To Action
button. Can change background image, color
o Headings and email content
o Photos and titles: row or multi-column layout
o Email segment lines for easy viewing
o Feature item: for product introduction email
o Price list
o Corporate communication channels: Facebook, Website, Instagram…
o Contact information: Address, phone number, email…

However, each content block has only 1 template. You can only change the image,
text, color on the existing template.

 Export emails and save to SlimEmail

Once the design is complete, you can publish the email in HTML or .ZIP format to
upload to SlimEmail. Or if you open MailBuilder in the campaign creation section,
select Save to SlimEmail in the right corner of the screen.

SlimEmail supports creating mass email campaigns to customers. You can


choose to quickly create a new campaign or choose to create and send a new
campaign. When creating a campaign, you have 2 options to start the campaign:

o Choose a pre-designed email template
o Start creating new templates by dragging and dropping content blocks or
using the MailBuilder email designer.

Next, you set up the information to continue the campaign such as Sender name,
outgoing email address, email to receive feedback, whether to track email opens and
clicks... Save and go to the last step. To complete the campaign, select the list of
recipients that were previously added to the software. Finally, SlimEmail allows
you to see how an email's visual orientation is when sent to customers.

Automatically send emails according to the script


Send automated emails according to the script or it can be called creating a
Drip Email marketing campaign. SlimEmail will help you create a series of emails
sent according to the script. This helps to follow up with customers, "nurture" and
gradually convert potential people into customers of the business.

To start creating an email sending script, you need to select a list of email
subscribers and set up an automatic delivery schedule for them.

Personalize Email Content


Instead of the generic title of Mr/Ms/Customer, SlimEmail helps you add specific
customer names. This helps personalize customers, stimulating them to open emails.

To set it up, scroll down to the bottom of the email design page, copy the
text/HTML part of your name and paste it into the email body. Thus, when finished
selecting the recipient list, the customer's name will be automatically added to it.
Integrate SlimEmail form into Website/Landing Page
SlimEmail allows integrating the registration form from the software into
the Website/Landing Page to collect customer data and create automated email
scripts.

You choose the list of subscribers and set up the registration form information. Here
is the link for the online registration form and the HTML code to embed in the
Website/Landing Page. When customers fill out a form, it can be converted into
Slimweb's data, saved as a list of potential customers to create conversion email
campaigns.
Add new list
SlimEmail helps you add email recipient lists for campaign creation. First,
you enter a list name according to the characteristics of that customer group (or
optional).

After creating a new List, there are 2 ways to add recipients. Detail:

 Manually enter each person's email, 1 line per person


 Import via CSV file

The SlimEmail system defaults to the fields of information about Full Name and
Email Address. However, with this feature you can edit and add information fields
to make the data on the software more complete. For example: Phone number,
Address, Company name...

You can group emails to easily manage and create campaigns with each
group accordingly. SlimEmail helps to add new groups, display the list of groups
and update/delete should change over time.
Convert excel file to CSV format

This feature helps to convert excel files to CSV format. You need to copy
the information in the excel file and paste it into the screen of the CSV file creation
tool on SlimEmail. The system will automatically convert, you just need to wait for
the download to finish and save the CSV file.

SlimEmail provides detailed statistical reports on how long emails were


sent. Opens, clicks on emails… Reports can be in the form of tables or graphs. This
helps you track the effectiveness of your campaigns. Timely adjustment of
inappropriate items and contents to bring about the best effect.

2.3.3. Pros and cons of SlimEmail


Pros:

With just a few steps and a short learning time, you can immediately use drag-and-
drop content blocks to create promotional emails or mass email campaigns.
 Popular email templates available
SlimEmail offers 6 popular email templates that businesses can use right away
without redesigning. Helps save time for users.
 Create an automated customer service campaign
Email scheduling feature, automatically sending according to pre-set scripts to help
customer care automatically. Do not send multiple times, the system will do it by
itself. Follow up with customers and turn potential people into customers of the
business.
 Customer personalization

SlimEmail helps to call customers' names instead of generic names, helping to
personalize and create intimacy and closeness with customers.
 Integrate the registration form on the Website with the software
Synchronize data from the registration form on the Website with the software.
Unified on 1 page to manage. At the same time, you can send email to those who
have registered the form immediately.
 Clear statistical report
The software has a detailed report on email viewing rate, email opening, etc. for
users to understand the campaign status. Adjust related factors to increase
efficiency.
Cons:

 Email open rate is not guaranteed


The percentage of recipients who open and generate email actions still depends on

CHAPTER III: OUTCOMES OF THE INTERNSHIP
6 weeks of internship, experience at Viettel Telecom is neither long nor short, more
or less left me with certain impressions and feelings about a professional working
environment in particular and the marketing profession in general.
I had the opportunity to study and experience many valuable lessons, such as about the
working, operation, and organization of a real company, learned a lot of practical
knowledge from the company, helped forge practice the necessary skills for the jobs they
will perform in the future. However, in the process of working, there are still many
mistakes and from those mistakes I have drawn some specific experiences for myself. Now
with the knowledge that I have learned from school as well as after an internship at the
company, I can be more confident when I will do related jobs in the future.
Viettel Telecom is a desirable place to work for many people as it is both a leading
enterprise in the field of telecommunications and the most valuable telecommunications
brand in Southeast Asia. If I have the opportunity in the future, I will devote all my abilities
to Viettel Telecom.
