1. DESCRIBE ABRAHAM MOSLOWS THEORY OF MOTIVATION <10 MRKS>
 Maslow proposed that motivation is the result of a person’s attempt at fulfilling five basic needs:
 Five levels of human need which employees need to have fulfilled at work
 Only once a lower level of need has been fully met would a worker be motivated by the
opportunity of having the next need up in the hierarchy satisfied.

Five categories of human needs that dictates an individual’s behavior;

I. Self-actualization. Intellectual needs fulfilling potential achieving targets.

II. Esteem. Self-respect level of status.
III. Social. Feeling wanted sense of belonging part of team.
IV. Safety. Safe working environment; job safety
V. Psychological; basic needs

I. Psychological needs

These needs include basic requirement for survival and maintenance of human life food, shelter, and
clothing. These needs can be satisfied when the monitory incetives are affected by the employers.

II. Safety and security needs

Once psychological needs are fulfilled then the people start thinking about their future as they want to
secure their future by making sure that in future they also continue to satisfy their psychological needs

III. Social needs/belonging needs

It means the need for love, affection, companionship, and friendship. This is to fulfill the social needs the
manager prefer team work.

IV. Esteem needs

These needs are related to respect and recognition. This need is more common in higher level of
employee. Esteem needs can be satisfied through non-monetary incetives.

V. Self actualization needs

This needs refers to realizing or reaching to the aim of the year life once the employee becomes what he
wants to become. It means satisfaction of his actualization needs.

2. EXPLAIN HOW THE THEORY CAN BE APPLIED DURING INSTRUCTION

 It can provide to the teacher a reminder and frame work that the students are less likely to
perform at their full potential if their basic needs are unmet.
 To support our students psychological needs the teacher should ensure all student met their basic
need eg food, water, sleep, oxygen and warmth
 If all the student met these basic needs the next step is safety. The students should continually be
equipped and monitored with the climate of our classroom to decrease bullying so as to ensure
peace among the students.
 To support love and belonging needs all students feel like the classroom has a family. The sitting
arrangements in class and placing them in groups help them to create love and affection.
 Student esteem needs need to be provided affirmatively, concrete, and transparent feedback so
that the student know their specific strengths and can articulate when they have used to succed in
our classroom
 In self actualization stage, students have all the precious stages met, they can achieve and create
at their full potential to perform at their best level.
