Environmental Ethics
- also known as environmental philosophy, deals with the relationship between a person and
his/her environment.

Environmental Value Systems


- refers to how a person sees and values environmental concerns.

3 Major Categories of Environmental Value Systems:


1. Ecocentrism - a view based on the principle that the natural world has an inherent value.
Two Types:
a. Land Ethic - focus on human responsibility towards the natural world.
b. Deep Ecology - is about a person's set of values and lifestyles that cause serious
environmental problems.
2. Anthropocentrism - is a philosophical Perspective which puts human needs and wants to be
the highest value and importance.
Human - Centered - believes that the natural world exists for humans.
3. Technocentrism - centered on technology, this view believes that it can provide solutions to
all environmental problems.

Challenges for Environmental Philosophy


- reminds people that all natural beings have intrinsic value.

3 Important Principles of Sustainability


Sustainability - is the ability to exist and develop without depleting natural resources for the
future.
1. Environmental Integrity - refers to maintaining the state of the environment.
2. Economic Efficiency - decision making regarding the use of resources.
Prudence - ability to regulate one's actions and behavior.
Frugality - being thrifty with the use of one's resources.
3. Equity - demands that we conserve the environment so that the next generation will be able
to use them.
