Let’s Analyze

1. Define environmental science and identify some important environmental concerns

we face today. Should environmental science include dimensions? Explain.

Environmental science is the field of science that studies the interactions of the physical,
chemical, and biological components of the environment and also the relationships and effects of
these components with the organisms in the environment. At this current time, the world around
us is changing at a very rapid pace. Some changes are beneficial, but many of the changes are
causing damage to our planet. The field of environmental science is a valuable resource for
learning more about these changes and how they affect the world we live in. For instance, the
large change is the dramatic increase in the number of humans on earth, Pollution, Global
warming due to emission of greenhouse gases, and Waste disposal are the major environmental
problem that happen now in the Philippines.

2. What is science? Identify and discuss some of its basic principles.

3. Draw a diagram showing steps of scientific methods and explain why each is
important.
4. Why is ethics being studied in environmental science. Cite examples.

In a Nutshell

1. The environment is a complex system where people and nature are intertwined, and the
unprecedented growth rate of the human population is the underlying global
environmental problem.
2. Ethics and faith base perspectives often inspire people to engage in natural resource
conservation and management, which eventually influences decision making about
environmental issues, which involves society, politics, culture, economics, values, and
scientific information.
