Conservative Party

The Conservative and Unionist Party, also known as the Tories is one of the oldest political parties in
the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1834 from the Tory Party and was one of two dominant
political parties in the 19th century, along with the Liberal Party.
Today, they are often in competition with the Labor party, the other big political faction. They won the
elections in 2005, 2010, 2015 & 2019.
Under Benjamin Disraeli, it played a preeminent role in politics at the height of the British Empire. In
1912, the Liberal Unionist Party merged with the party to form the Conservative and Unionist Party.
As the name indicate, the conservative party is conservative. Meaning, it’s a party that bases its
ideology that is in favor of traditional values, limited role of government in people's lives in favor of
entrepreneurship & free-market economic policies.
It’s key members throughout history are : Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, David Cameron,
Boris Johnson & the actual prime minister Rishi Sunak.
The Conservatives were the one in favor of the Brexit. Factors included sovereignty, immigration,
keeping national sovereignty & the economy, amongst various other influences. The result of the
referendum was 51.8% of the votes were in favor of leaving the European Union.
